' enmaa' ART CLUB The Art Club, which is composed of art majors and minors, has as its main purpose the getting together of students with a mutual interest in art, so that they may become better acquainted with each other as well as with the various phases ot art. Much of the c1ub's activity this year has been concerned with Art Alumni Scholarship, which was begun last year. This scholarship enables the art major with the highest scholastic standing to better attend Q summer school session at Northern to further his art studies. Northern is attemp. ting to have an artist-in-residence during each summer's session: therefore enabling the Art Alumni Scholarship recipient to enroll in a painting course from a noted artist such as Aaron Bohord, who was artist-in-residence during the summer of 1953. Some of the other activities undertaken by the club during its meetings this year were designing to music and experimenting with the mixed medig technique introduced by Mr. Bohrod last summer. The club always has a social meeting at the end of the school year, at which time the graduating art majors are honored.

The monthly meetings consist ot two parts: business and educational, The educational part features guest speakers, films, and demonstrations which provide interesting experiences that cannot be obtained in the ordinary clogs. room atmosphere. The principal highlight of they club's activities throughout the year is the sponsorship of an annual Upper Peninsula Science Fair, which is made possible through the club's affiliation with the Michigan Iunior Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters. This fair provides an opportunity for high school and college stu. dents to submit projects or papers which are judged on the basis of accuracy and originality. Winning items are usually exhibited at an o11.5ggge fair in Lower Michigan. Once a year the club publishes a news letter that is sent to high schools and colleges throughout the state. An outdoor meeting in the form of a field trip and picnic concludes the club's activities in May.
