Helen LaFaver of Gladstone, Elsie Lehto of L'Ansc, and Ruth Sandbom of Es- canaba. The team defeated a girls' team from Ypsilanti April 22nd, on the affirmative of the question: Resolved, That Congress should be empowered to adopt uniform marriage and divorce laws. The Ypsi had successfully arguedthe question six times previous to the de- bate here. It was a well-earned decision, and we are proud of you, girls! Professor A. L. Franzke, of Lawrence College, judged. Yes, these representatives of Northern are all-round girls. They were active leaders in high school, and you know what they are doing at Northern! Helen and Ruth are Freshmen, members of the Minervan Debating Society, and have had experience in high school debating. 'Elsie is a Sophomore, a mem- ber of the Forum Debating Society, and has never debated before. Gur alternates, who, with the team, worked hard to keep up Northern's standard in forensics, are lleatriee Rashleigh of Calumet and Ruth Wells of Tre- nary. These girls have proved their ability as debators, and we hope that girls' de- bating teams will become a matter of course at Northern. Let us remember their coach, to whom sutticient praise and credit cannot be given-Miss Lena Durboraw. . 1, -', .n . f ru ru J, .v, .9 . -L uf tu tu -ln' xv uf ,, . ,..,...... .... S2 iii... ,...
