In a game replete with thrills, the down-staters succeeded in nosing out a 32-30 victory before the largest crowd of the year. A second journey into the Badger state resulted in two more victories, Osh- kosh being defeated 30-17 on February 22, and Stevens Point the following night, 31-30, after nearly convincing them they had won the game. Superior came here on February 25 for the last home game of the year, and before a large and appreciative crowd received a 45-14 setback. A trip down-state the following week ended the basketball season for Northern. On March 3 our team met VVestern, unbeaten in Michigan, a11d prob- ably gave the best account of themselves when they held the Kazoo squad to a 32-25 win. The next night Ypsi took a listless game from us, 33-20. The fol- lowing night our boys closed a very successful season by administering a 36-34 beating to Central. This trip did a lot in keeping Northern on the map. In the best court record thus far, the team ran up a total of 490 points to 317 for its opponents. Although three of the regulars will be lost via the graduation route, Coach Hedgcock has enough veterans and prospective players to form an equally successful 1928 squad. . ' V9 V111 ' ' Basketball Season, '26-927 The '26-'27 basketball team set a record that will be hard to beat when it won 11 of its 14 games. and established a precedent for playing non-state and non-conference teams. 'With every member of last year's team back except 'l.TCl'lll, and the addition of several high school stars, Coach 'Hedgcock was able to place two teams on the floor in every game. Calumet Lions opened the first game of a long season here on December 4, when they were taken into camp, 45-18. The following week we obtained sweet revenge for the football setback, when Oshkosh journeyed here and were handed a 37-28 drubbing. ' Northland was our next foe on january 7, and the team had a comparatively easy time in giving them a 36-11 beating. The next week our boys took their annual jaunt into VVisconsin territory, vanquishing Superior there on January 1-l, 30-25, and Northland again on the following night, 29-10, returning to outelass Michigan Tech on the home floor, 37-23, on january 21. On january 29 the team journeyed to Houghton, and ran away with every- thing the Miners had to offer. Score, 59-10.
