'vi , 'nffffu ff' ' , ... f' 3. 1' ecfication g The Northern Michigan Christian High School Circle was organized on January TILL, 19116 It began with just twenty four members, but has grown so that now it has one hundred and twenty two members The Circle has served the school in countless ways It has raised a large amount of money Much of this has been obtained through its sales, the annual fall sale as well as the white elephant and rummage sales They also have ch rge of the canteen on Rally Day Other money has been raised through silver tea and the birthday calendars They have also sponsored various pro grams these include colored slides by Mr De Vos, Moody Bible Institute Films pictures of the Christian Psychopathic Hospital show by Rev Heynen, and a choir concert They also sponsored the play, M Cook Takes 0ver', which was given by the C P H Dramatics Club Their own dramatics club which was organized last year, gave three performances of the play, nHome with Father Besides all this each member pays dues annually They have helped to furnish almost every room in the new building For the Gymnasium they bought folding chairs carts for the chairs and two sections of bleachers They supplied seats for the assembly room For the typing room they bought six new typewriters They helped to build the library and also furnished the library and office They purchased a piano, which is be ing used in the class room Equipment for the Janitors is supplied by them and also some of the kitchen equipment They bought screens, which are used for the assembly room, class room, office and library Some money was also given to the school board for general use They have backed the board in getting city water in the new building In addition to this they spend a day every year cleaning the school, Remembering gratefully their innumerable services, and continued efforts we dedicate our 1952 Wlorthern Reflectorn to the High School Circle Pg To C . . N DYKNOUSB, M TGCOMH, V Smits, H Eisenga, Mr F westmaas, Director, M Heuker, G Westmaas, K Brinks, S Koster when school begins in the fall, one of the many things to which we look forward is the day when the choir will start to hold its regular rehearsals But before we can start rehearsals, we must have me ntry out days when anyone who is interested in singing can go to Mr westmaas during the choir period to sing for him Then, soon after the 'try out days , a list pf names appears on the bulletin board, and on this list we find the names of the year's choir members and also the names of the choir aids. Some of the choir aids may become members if they show alertness, progress, and willingness to learn. Our choir now has M5 members. In the regular choir rehearsals, there is never a dull moment. The tenors love to flat, the sopranoa sharp, and so between us and the piano we really have a rough time. We also have the talent to forget about rhythm and time when we sing some of our syncopated numbers. After a session like this, Mr. westmaas always goes to a mirror to look for a gray hair and to smooth down his dark locks which he says we made stand on end. But under Mr. westmaas' capable and patient leadership and with the help of our pianist Phyllis De Ruiter we always come out 'on top . This spring we are planning several trips. One is to Petosky to take part in the district festival. Another is to the state festival which will be held in Mt. Pleasant. We have participated in these events for several years, and have always received excellant ratings. We also plan to go to Grand Rapids for the annual Christian High School Choir Festival which will be held in the Civic Auditorium and Calvin College. ' , ,L W . 0 . n I IV y Cla rid tmad Arty Of w och, Toon' Tale oe Due to a snowstorm our Christma party was held on the afternoon of December 23 instead of the usual evening party Donald Aardema read us the Christmas story as found in Luke Mr westmaas led us in singing a few Christmas carols Our choir also rendered a few beautiful Christmas numbers We then had several instrumental and vocal numbers as well as skits presented by some of our talented classmates One of the highlights of the program was a humorous reading given by Miss Schaaf Last but not least Santa's helpers passed out the gifts for all hunch was served by the losing team of our Christmas card sales A grand time was had by all Presents Too, Courtin' Scene Sister Act P g Tv nty three Cladd Prophecy On a night dark we wandered about we tho't of the future with many a doubt 'What could the fate of our classmates be? We asked as we walked in deep reverie As we wandered about we came to a stair, It reached to the depths, we knew not where Irresistibly drawn, we wended our way To where a large rock with this legend lay NTo the wise and the simple, the cheerful a Three knocks on this stone, if you would be glad The directions we followed, a witch did appea At the sight of her visage we trembled with fear we told her our mission our spirits depressed The fate of our classmates, our only request As she waved her hand, a consenting token, e answered us thus, WTO you it is spoken nd sa , Dr Marian Koster has risen to great height By her pill, which makes people grow thin overnight Marge Tacoma as an artist has found a high place And her best work is done on her own little face Miss Phyllis De Ruiter can tickle the keys so that her music is like the whims of the breeze, She's becore a great musician so people say, For she also teaches others to play Lois Brinks does lead a most happy life In a pretty little home, a kind mother and wife nAdv1ce to the Lovelorn' Julia Pluger does write, It appears in 'The Press every saturday night For a living all day a little organ did grind A monkey with red caps and mittens to match Frisked at his side and took in the cash Ardy Tacoma, on C 1ifornia's bright shore, Is treading her patlway alone as of yore In a great institution she's the most learned teacher And 1t's whispered that she's in love with a preacher Nelvin Jager receives many a glance r he's the inventor of N st iron pants He is ridiculed much, but his goods stand the test For now his trousers outwear his vest Evie Kenbeek is a teacher and though very mild, She loves the adage uSpare the rod, and spoil the chi Don Ouainga has invented a violin without strings And so now he will play before rulers and kings Bernard Tolsma gives talks UOn the Use of Hot Air He is full of his subject, but his victims despair Angie De Vries has turned out for the best Although in school she was such a pest And Mr Bergman has become quite a feature Of Calv1n's new faculty, the chemistry teacher.
