A super pep rally was held Friday afternoon in the high school gym. Students were treated to a punk pep band and teacher cheerleaders captained by Mr. Wickenheiser. Bring- ing cheers from the crowd, a Viking lndian chase continued until Mr. Ludwig, attired as the Viking, returned with the scalp of the Indian, Mr. Schickram. Homecoming candidates and their escorts were introduced. A rose was presented to each contestant. Fall sports team members were recognized. A spirit trophy was awarded to the seniors. Choosing the most enthusiastic class was difficult because of the complete crowd involvement. The eighth graders received the trophy in the junior high pep rally. After school the hockey and soccer teams saw action against Ephrata. The suc- cessful sale netted S800.00. The play, “Ashes, Ashes All Fall Down,” was chosen to be performed on February 24 and 25. Due to several conflicts, the play had to be cancelled. The class thought about choosing another play, but there would not have been enough time to properly prepare for it. On April 14 a dance was held to further benefit the class funds. It was the sequel to “Bye Bye Birdie which had been performed several years prior. “Bring Back Birdie takes place twenty years after the original and the time is in the present. Albert Peterson, Conrad's ex-manager and his wife Rose are offered S20,000 to find the missing Conrad Birdie and have him perform at the Grammy Awards Show. Albert and Rose engage in a frantic search for Conrad which leads them to Bent Junction, Arizona. After a happy reunion with Albert's mother, Mae Peterson, they again re- sume their search for Conrad. The search leads them to Bent River Junction's mayor, C.B. Townsend, who turns out to be Conrad. After a few twists in the plot and several encounters with a cull and a punk rock group, Conrad finally agrees to perform at the Grammy Awards Show. The set Design, lighting, and staging were done by Valerie Stima. Dances were choreographed by Rita Stima and the orchestra was conducted by Harlan Daubert. 128 MUSICAL Where’s The Beef? Vo-Ag Knows! Most seniors were envied by the underclassmen be- cause they looked comfort- able in shorts while prepar- ing for the days. The second time through. the procession looked more like the real thing as seniors marched down the aisles with their caps and gowns. After 12 years of school, two more days of waiting for the extra special day was well worth it as most could envision the diplomas in hand and a bright future ahead. Tackle Difficult Job Students Archive class members were initiated into the world of yearbook in Sep- tem be r by attending Hcrff Jones annual work- shop held at Gettysburg College. The students re- turned to school confused with all the new jargon and concepts, yet excited as they discussed possible themes and ideas. The next several weeks were spent learning the basics and practicing them. Someone, no one now remembered who, had suggested a theme deal- ing with music. It SOUNDED great. All, or most, agreed the captions would contain song titles. Daily conversations be- gan to sound the same. “Zserai, what's a song for this picture. Are you sure that's the correct ti- tle? Mrs. Frye would question. Between cropping, writing copy, designing layouts, scheduling pho- tographers (or forgetting to schedule them), and all the other minor details, Karen Klcinfelter would tell her joke for coke. In her quest for Knowledge, all would be forced to lis- ten to the daily Trivial Pursuit question on FM 104. She was never able to reach them with the an- swer. Doug Beck, howev- er, was quite successful in contacting the radio sta- tion. The only problem was that he had dialed the wrong toll free number. He was trying to reach the customer service Rep at Hcrff Jones. As always, the job of completing the yearbook seemed insurmountable. Deadlines passed. Seniors had to be contacted indi- vidually concerning their pictures or their index in- formation. Film would re- turn with the most neces- sary picture missing or blurred. The most dread- ed event happened. School ended, and so did the help of the Seniors. Thank heavens for would be Seniors. The task of forcing song titles to fit captions was mind bog- gling, but LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT. JoAnn Catani, Karen Klcin- felier. Crystal Foster. Row 2: Robin Howcr. Bob Miller. Mark Hefferon.
