You, the members of the 1959 Northern Lebanon High School Class, will be the first to graduate from our new high school. You have had many educational opportunities afforded you by our modern facilities. These facilities have enabled you to study under ideal conditions. You have had the use of a modern library, an audio-visual room, science laboratories, music rooms, health rooms, homemaking and com- mercial classrooms. These well-equipped rooms have provided the means for effective learning situations. You have had the services of a guidance counselor, an art supervisor, and a librarian. Our boys’ and girls’ physical education instructors have provided opportunities for cooperative activities in our modern gymnasium. In addition, you have had the oppor- tunity to enjoy the facilities of our cafeteria. Buildings, equipment, and services are important, but of primary importance, is the amount of learn- ing that has taken place. For this reason, each stu- dent is expected to work to his capacity according to ability. I believe that most of you have assumed this responsibility. The effort and energy you have used should af- ford you much happiness and a sense of achievement. Surely, you must feel a great deal of satisfaction and pride in having had the opportunity to complete your work in our modern high school. I hope that this education will provide the means for making you a well-adjusted citizen. May I ex- tend my best wishes to each of you as you seek to find your place in the world. Twelve years have now elapsed since all of you began the learning of the “3 R’s.” For some of you, these years have been rugged; for some, a day-to- day struggle in order to get out of doing work; for others, just an ordinary part of your life. I seriously hope that your teachers, down through the years, have been able to teach each of you these “3 R’s.” Greater than this, indirectly, from day to day your teachers, your parents, and other adults have been doing their utmost to teach another set of “3 R's.” Have you been conscious of these or will it take another twelve years for you to assume your rightful place among your fellow men? How many errors will you commit? In how many em- barrassing positions will you place yourself? In how many precarious situations will you be until the fruits of this second set of “3 R’s” will be ripened to their fullest? When will you realize that ‘Read- in, Ritin and Rithmetic’ are a necessary part of life, but the second set of “R’s”, ‘Respect, Responsibility and Reverence’, will make you better persons and pave the path to better understanding of your fellow men ? JOHN R. ROBERTS High School Principal HENRY WENGER Supervising Principal 7
