Z1. 11 : J The outstanding characteristic of childhood is growth. From . vig birth to approximately the age of twenty, the child passes gg through a period of continuous change which differentiates , y f, these years from the more stable period of adulthood. V , g In a democracy the individual is given the opportunity to make the most of himself. Schools provide one of the .. n,.y . . means by which the child may develop himself to the utmost. 'LF gn. mf ff y 'Q 3 t. my f Qt Your school is interested not only in the knowledge you gained from the basic subjects but also in your health, your ability to get along with your fellow classmates, your ability to participate in group activities and in your con- structive life work. The school has tried to provide an education which will help you to become the type of citizen needed in a democracy. You have learned to think independently. In the years a- head you will make many choices. May you think clearly through all your problems and choose wisely so that your Alma Mater may be justly proud of you. I extend my congratulations and best wishes to each member of the 1955 graduating class. Mr. Henry Wenger Supervising Principal To the Members of the Class of 1955: Twelve years ago you entered school for the first time. Many of you began school life in this areag others first entered school in other localitiesg some in other states. The fortunes of life brought you to- gether in Northern Lebanon Joint High School. For the past four years it has been your stage. All of you have played a part in the drama of high school lifeg some have play- ed many parts. In As You Like It , Shakespeare says: One man in his life time plays many parts. This immortal line expresses your destiny. All of you will have many re- sponsibilities and obligationsg some will have an op- portunity to make large contributions in money and services. Our dream is that all of you will play your part nobly and with consideration and helpfulness to others President Lincoln once said, I hold that while man exists, it is his duty to improve, not only his own con- dition, but to assist in ameliorating the conditions of mankind. Your school can bestow no better benediction than to urge you to follow the injunction of our great martyred President. May all of you take with you from Northern Lebanon Joint High School a deep love andre- spect for all men. May you comfort those who mourng help those in distressg share with the needy, and finally may you fully respect the personality of all people. Mr. John Rs Roberts Principal -' 4' ' 1- at . y . . E M ICIA 19+- A Y Marching to the rhythmic tune of E Pluribus Unum the Northern Lebanon High School Band participated in the Halloween Parades of Myerstown, Lebanon, Jonestown, and Fredericks- burg. The success in these parades was shown by the fact that several first prizes were re- ceived. On a cold wintry day in December the band journeyed to Harrisburg to take part in the Merchants Award Competition. The Marching Band and the Band Front both received excellent ratings which indicates that a fine showingwas made, The Christmas Program was the next event for the band, Many traditional holiday pieces were played and enjoyed by an extra large audience this year. Several members of the band were honored by being chosen to attend the County Music Festival. Some received higher honors by attending District Band and State Band. The Northern Lebanon High School Band reached its peak of perfection when it pre- sented its Annual Spring Concert two nights this year, Both performances were very well attended. To round out the year the band has planned to participate in the local MemorialDay Parades, the Commencement Exercises, May Day, and the Air Force Competition Parades, In conclusion we might say that owing to the very capable and hard work of Mr. Har- lan Daubert, Band Director, our band has completed one of its most successful years, 45 0ll FIRST ROW: Nicholas Bogner, Paul Lerch, Helen Landis, Joan Kissinger, Evelyn Klick, Janet Hoffa Lanetta Krissinger, Geralding Wentling, Frances Swope, Ann Marie Schaurn, Arlene Bomburger, Joyce Mohn, Thelma Hostetter, Diane Gerhart, Vernice Shuey, Jeanne Yerger, Glenn Hoffa, Les- ter Merkey. The boys practiced hard every chance they got and were very much enthused over this little game of basketball but somehow or another they just cou1dn't get together the right combination. J l0ll VARSITY BA KETBALL The Junior Varsity opened practice sessions along with the var- sity at the close of Soccer season, The call for boys was HCI answered very well, We started our season with eight boys, seven of which were Sophomores, and one Junior, Our season record does not entirely do us justice, We are looking rather favorably toward the future since these boys have two full seasons remaining together. 65 JE.ElEE BASKETBALL Basketball isn't always the tall boys game. The boys of N. L. H. S. learned this much to their regrets, For the second consecutive year our boys made a sad venture into the County Jr, High League, Getting start- ed seemed to be our biggest trouble as a bad first or second quarter nearly always caused our downfall. However, the team can be proud of their work because most of the scores were close. Look for some better than average teams for our varsity in the future. CHEERLEADERS The members of the cheerleader's squad are as follows: Barbara Lash, Frances-Swope, Joyce Wenger, Rita Boeshore, Jean Bashore, Nancy Hoke, Janet Hoffa-basketball captaing Phyllis Killinger-soccer captain, The cheerleaders put forth a good effort to cheer the boys on to victory in soccer and in basketball, For the first time in a few years, a pep rally was held to get the spirit of the game into the high school pupils. The squad also received new uniforms which they are very proud to wear. 66 IHNIKEY We wish to congratulate the hockey team for winning the county championship again this year, About twenty-eight girls, coached by Miss Whitcraft, practiced hard almost every night after school so that the team might be victorious. It was a very successful season with nine wins and one tie. ELCO was our greatest challenger.
