.- 'M r A Huskie gallops around end on a play during the Homecoming game. Di that craz line! The band really went all out 9 Y in preparation for the half-time ceremonies i 1 fi WHAT fl 6.4M ! Northern's Huskies narrowly missed pulling the upset of the i958 football season on Homecoming Saturday. The Huskies dropped the hard-fought game 32-23 to the undefeated Chippewas of Central Michigan College. An inspired NIU eleven took the opening kick-ali, marched 82 yards in nine plays, and scored. Butch Hansen car- ried the ball for the final 22 yards. Central quickly retaliated as Jerry O'Neil ran around end for 49 yards and a touchdown. Lou Flinn provided the only scoring in the second period when he kicked a 31-yard goal. It was only the third field goal kicked by a Northern player in the past Welcome N.l. Grads and Visitors. Northern fans concentrate on the game. 12 years. The boot gave the Huskies a 9-6 half-time lead. Northern took off again and scored quickly, with the payoff play being an i8-yard pass from Flinn to Tony Durante. Flinn converted and NIU lead 16-6. ln the third quarter, Walter Beach took a handolit and sped 68 yards through most ofthe Huskie defenders to make the score 'I6-13. The following kickoff was fumbled away by the hosts, and Central took over on the Huskie one-yard line to score again. Beach again scored in the final period on a one-yard plunge follow- ing a 56-yard run with an intercepted pass. The Nlettes add a feminine touch during half-time ceremonies. 5 7

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra takes a bow after its concert in the main auditorium on November second. PZEASANT ll57EWlN6' Sigma Alpha Iota, the national professional music sorority, presented its 'fall musicale on Sunday, the 9th of November. The musicale program consisted of works by Bach, Leoncavallo, Schumann and several con- temporary composers. The previous Sunday the first event on the Artist- Lecture series calendar featured the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Walter Hendel. The symphony performed compositions by Beethoven, Men- , delssohn and Tschaikowsky. Both events drew enthusiastic audiences of students to demonstrate that college students enjoy and appreci- ate the classics. A trio from Sigma Alpha lota composed of June Opatrny, Rosalie Johnson, and Joyce Stralow per- formed for the Musicale. Some of tl1e members of Sigma Alpha lota participate in the Musicale. 25
