OUR CLASS HISTORY As our senuor year comes to an end we look unto our past years at Northern Hugh We proudly haul the class of 58 the flrst class to spend sux complete years together un the new consoludated Northern Hugh School Our flrst frughtenung days un thus fascunatung new unfunushed school were full of adventure and awe Never before had our luttle eyes seen such a beautuful school The audutoruum wuth the plush covered seats was sumply gorgeous Many of us were never even un a gym nasuum before and fascunatuan mounted as we stared at the murror luke floor and could see ourselves wuthaut even straunung our eyes Northern Hugh was a dream come true Our class then numbered l23l We were duvuded unto four homerooms Mrs Weaver Muss Emlet tMrs Moareu Mr Nell and Mr Getz were our homeroom teachers and they soon proved to be the guudung hands that carrued us through our flrst year On March 9 l953 the hugh school was completely flnushed and the senuor hugh students uouned the uunuor hugh students A long fascunatung year of partues excute ment and fun soon drew to a close Summer vacatuan came and went Our class now accustomed to and acquaunted wuth Northern started uts eughth year un school Mr Evans our pruncupal assugned us to homeraoms at an assembly on the flrst day of school uQ7!L ,ffl How we have changed' Left to nght are Stan Jum Galen Carol Ron Judy Donna Bull Ed Harold and Georgew Thus year we found a need for class oftlcers They were Jane Kunter presudent Ronald Wolf vuce presudent Joyce Flohr secretary Connue Trostle treasurer and Charlotte Lehmann hustoruan As Farmer s Day drew near our excutement mounted becasue Mr Evans had guven us specual permussuon to enter a decorated car un the parade Another flrst for the class of 58 We spent many hours decoratung our car un red whute and blue usung the theme Statue of Luberty Even though we were not among the wunners we dud gaun some excellent experuence whuch proved very help ful un future years Thus year the purple and whute uackets became offlcual and much the rage We really felt proud when Mr Evans would unvute us to an occasuonal dance at the Allenberry , . . . . , . , , 1 1 - 1 ' . . . ,, . . - 1 . . . . . . Coloring Easter eggs and selling them was a money making protect that we also trned thus year It proved very successful At the end of this year we were permitted to take a trip to Washington We left early tn the morn mg and returned at 9 p m tlate for usl While there we toured the Washington Monument the Whtte House and many other things of interest After three months vacatuon we all met In the school audntornum again There we learned that our new homeroom teachers were Miss Rook Mrs Weaver Mr Ketterman and Mr Getz At our first class meeting we elected the follow mg officers James Ruchwlne president Carol Smith vice president Connte Trostle secretary Wllltam Eurlch treasurer and Charlotte Lehman htstornan to serve for the remannmg four years Agam Farmers Day was lust around the cor ner This year we entered a float and a car In the parade We felt that our lucky star was with us for we captured first prize wnth our float called Out of This World and our car representing Cinderella Our first stand in front of Nells Restaurant and also across from the ludges stand proved to be very successful Now that we had our start we were determlned to make money So on Aprll 20th we held our first skating party at Haar s Skating Rmk In order to get In the swung of thtngs for the next year we elected new officers Martha Kauff man president Joyce Ilgenfritz vnce presldent Shir ley Sheely secretary and Wllllam Euruch treasurer We ended our freshman year with a bang by going to Hershey Park for a picnic and amusements Returnlng to school for our sophomore year we were greeted by our new pnncupal Mr Dale Smlth and our new supervlslng prlncupal Mr M Luther Scott Our first prize winning car Mrs Armstrong Mr Getz and Mr Kaup were sentenced to be our homeroom teachers for thus year Mr Hoopes recenved an extra long sentence because he became our class advusor for the remain :ng three years We partucnpated as always in the magaznne drive and Farmers Day We sold the Dull Pickle Booster Tickets whuch gave an addntlonal boost to our treasury Our stand In front of Nells Restaurant was a terrific success Mnsfortune seemed our lot thus year because we dndnt wm anythnng tn Dlllsburg on our float For Me And My Gal but we did rack up a nnce sum tn other nearby towns Including a 2nd prize in the Hanover Parade and a lst prtze tn Mechantcsburg 5 Myrna Pentz Geo Mummert Ruthie Nelson and Nancy Gerber rode our sophomore float M And M fi We held a skating party at the Rainbow Roller Rank and sold Iron On Letters We made a small fortune on these enterpruses Spring came and our school rings came too Once agann the class of 58 was the first to wear the beautnful school rung which wnll be Northerns stand ard rung for future classes We were proud to be In senaor high and attend dances partnes and sports events at Northern Hugh Our school was prosperlng more and more New clubs and new sports were developmg At last we could partncupate un our school newspaper chotr and choruses These wer thrills for all of us To end our sophomore year we elected officers to supervnse our lunxor year They were Ronald Kearns president Gerald Harbold vice presndent Beverly Grove secretary and Wnllram Eurtch treasurer - 1 . , .
