She lives with George and Sue Evans of Reading. She has really enjoyed being in the United States and going to Northern Heights. Tia said that the United States was so big, the people go so fast, but it’s great. She really enjoys Northern Heights because it is so small and she knows almost all the kids. She said the guys are nice, but they tease a lot. Tia misses her friends the most and plans to attend college after two more years of school in Finalnd. Her advice to everyone is to visit Europe. She feels that everyone should have the experience of traveling and meeting new people, and as you get older always have fun. She also said thanks for a great year. Patricia Silvia Cavalcante is an 18-year-old foreign exchange student from Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. She lives with the family of Robert Sattler in Reading. She thinks the United States is a wonderful country and the people of N.H.H.S. are great. She thinks the United States and the N.H. guys are very different. Patricia misses her family, friends, and her dog. After leaving America she plans to attend college. She would like Americans to continue being the marvelous people that they are and not permit hatred to enter their hearts. Prophecy The year is 2006. and the NHHS class of 1986 is celebrating their 20th year since graduating from Heights. They decided to hold the gathering at Reading Lake for old times’ sake. No alcoholic beverages will be served because the state legislature decided to keep increasing the drinking age in Kansas one year at a time until it reached forty. But no one should miss the beer because Brad Monroe and Keven Paige, co-owners of a chain for fast food restaurants called Bueno Burrito. are catering the party. They are the first to arrive at the designated shelter house and they busily begin to set things up. A few moments later a Frito-Lays potato chip truck screeches to a stop and Missi Olson and Tamara Just hop out. They drive a delivery truck for the company and get all the chips they want FREE! Pulling up right behind them is an old school bus painted similarly to the Partridge Family's, exiting it are Tony Moore and Tony Boyce. They have formed their own rock-n-roll duo. The Tony Twins. They all watch and cheer as three little figures approach from down the road. It turns out to be Dwayne Moseler. John Cimino, and Jarrod Voorhees. They were competing in a cross continent marathon and got a little off course so they decided to drop in on the celebration. Douglas Horton and Richard Dueck are the next to arrive. Doug is famous for his best selling book Amazing Book of Mazes. Richard plans to become famous by writing a book of solutions to Doug's mazes. Everyone looks up as a huge helicopter descends upon the happy scene. As it lands, a dozen troops jump out and right in the middle is Tia Tenlen and Ben Schubert. They will be leaving for Russia right after the reunion. The plan is for Tia to get the Russian soldiers drunk while Ben steals valuable information for the U.S. Armed Forces. Within the next few minutes. Bill Rice and Khris Henderson arrive. They both went into show business. Bill is a stand-up comedian and has made appearances with Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, and Eddie Murphy. Khris now co-stars with Richard Simmons on his exercise show. She got the job by threatening to put him out of business with her own physical fitness show. Donna Rhodes and Lori Schroeder ride up on their horses and tie them to a sign. They are rangers of Reading Lake State Park. They kindly remind the class of '86 not to paint any art work on the shelter house. A limousine drives up and Tony Roberts and Marcia Biggs climb out. Tony is starring in the newest series of Tarzan movies as Tarzan and Marcia stars as Jane. Bill Choate and Lee Lowder drive up in identical four wheel drive pick-ups. They travel across the country doing dare-devil stunts in their trucks. They offer a sample of their routine and proceed to simultaneously jump Reading Lake. A USD 251 bus skids to a stop and who else but Mark Birchmeier gets off. He has been awarded bus driver of the year for the last 5 years He picked up a few other people on their way to the reunion including Dick Milner. Randy Hizar, Kay Harred. Denise Walker, and Mr Massey. Lanny that is. Lanny followed in his father’s footsteps and is now the distinguished principal of NHHS. Denise Walker is his personal secretary. Dick Milner developed a mysterious new special sauce and sold the recipe to McDonald's, who after great success, made him President of the McDonald’s chain. Kay Harred is a famous hair dresser designer. She makes the promise of a unique haircut every time because of her new technique of blindfolding herself and doing what feels natural. Randy Hizar. owner manager of the biggest chain of video rental stores in the U.S.. has his video camera on his shoulder ready to go. He plans to make a fortune renting out copies of the reunion of the NHHS class of '86. A Porsche drives up and Steve Kusmaul and Patricia Cavalcante hop out. Steve won $10.000.000 in a mail-in sweepstakes and lives in Beverly Hills where he has a Porsche for every day of the week. Patricia made a trip back from Brazil where she has written a novel about her bizarre experiences in the U.S. including many hair raising tales of Journalism class. A van speedily approaches and Darren Street and Carol Hensley join the crowd. They have started their own architectural firm. Darren designs the buildings and Carol does the interior decorating. They are in the process of designing a new White House for the President of the U.S. An ambulance pulls up and out hops Tammy Webb. She's pushing a wheel chair with a body resembling a mummy in it. It turns out to be Bill Cone, the world famous rodeo star. He has broken every bone in his body and has to wear a body cast for a few days. Tammy, his physical therapist, is nursing him back to health. They all drop their burritos as they notice flashing red lights coming down the road. They all wonder. What have we done this time? The patrol car drives right up to the cooler of Pepsi and Sheriff Dale Weber and Kevin Stone, his partner, get out to make sure no laws are being broken The whole class has made it. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief and they all continue with their big celebration. CONGRATULATIONS MARCIA! Words cannot express the happiness you have brought us by just being you. We had a lot to be thankful for; there were no serious injuries and we have next year to look forward to. We hope that next year will be a whole lot better. 30 Varsity Front row-Tiffany Eastman, Missi Olson, Jackie Shope, Marcia Jones, Michelle Wyda, Tammy Hopper. The Ladycats went to the Lyon County League Tournament with nine wins and six losses, and once again came out with third place. They wrapped up the season with eleven wins and eight losses. There were many good teams and a lot of competition in the area this year. This was illustrated by Northern Heights both winning a match and losing a match to five of the teams they played twice. 1986 promises to be a good year with many experienced players returning. ‘‘Thanks” to head coach Teresa Myers and assistant coach Gene Brooks for their time and patience. We placed third out of 20 schools. Although this was the only tro- phy we brought home, many individual medals were won. We had only two girls run for us this season, Naomi Clock and Kay Harred. After our strong team placing at Rossville, several of our team members caught the flu and were plagued with in- juries, and we were never able to put forth a strong and aggressive team effort the rest of the season. The members of our boys team: John Cimino, Jarrod Voor- hees, Mark Moser, Dwayne Moseler,Eric Parks, Dwayne Reust and Patrick Helton. The gym was decorated by the Junior class. The decorations were in a Paris-like setting and the theme was Tonight I Celebrate My Love for You. 69 56 On May 1st, 1986, the Senior Class boarded their chartered bus and got ready to leave for Texas. The bus left at 7:30 p.m. and we were on our way. Even though the bus ride was long and tiring some of us managed to stay awake and keep the others entertained. We arrived in Galveston about 11:30 a.m. Friday morning. We stopped to eat at the Kettle Restaurant because we sure were hungry. The man who owned the restaurant was really nice and gave us our meals y2 price and 2nd’s on the house. After eating breakfast, we were ready to hit the showers. We got to our Ramada Inn, took showers and rested a little. Even though the day was overcast we still went swimming. We then got ready to go to Senior Night at Astro World in Houston. It was a lot of fun. We went to a Cheap Trick Concert, rode all the rides, played all the games, but when it came time to go we were ready. Saturday we got to spend all day at the beach and shopping. We were allowed to go and do mostly whatever we wanted. If you have never seen the ocean I suggest you go. It’s Great!! Sunday we got up and left at 9:00 for NASA in Houston. We arrived there about 11:00 and started touring. NASA was really interesting if you like space. We finished the tour at 1:00 and we were on our way to San Antonio. We arrived there about 3:30 p.m. We got checked in and we went swimming. We swam until we were ready to leave at 6:00 p.m. for the River Walk. The middle of San Antonio has nothing but shops and Restaurants up and down it. It has a sidewalk on both sides so you could get around. We were left to run wild for a while down there and find our way back to the motel. Monday we got up and began our guided tour of San Antonio. We took a trolley car down to the Needle Point Building where you can view all of San Antonio. After leaving there we were able to shop. We were supposed to meet and take the same bus back but that didn’t work out because some people were missing, so the rest of us returned and started packing. After everyone was found and had returned we left to go River Tubing in New Braunfels. It seemed like it took forever to get there, but we finally made it. We all ran off the bus, changed, grabbed our tubes and headed for the river. This was really fun. You jump in the river with your tube and float down a canal and then hit rapids. We did this for a while and then we decided to go all the way down the river. This took about an hour. Then we had to walk back. When we got back some of the guys decided to go down the canal on their feet. This was fun but unfortunately two people got hurt. One person almost drowned and another cut a gash in his leg. Time drew nearer to leave and we summed up the trip. We loaded the bus again and headed for home. The last stop we made was at Dallas to pick up another bus driver. We rested at the bus stop there. We slept until we got to Wichita, ate breakfast and left again for home. We were all glad to be home, but we all enjoyed Texas so much some are planning to go again. In Memory Of Mary E. Jenkins Mary and her grandson Daughter Carol, Mary, and daughter Kathy We called her Mary or Little Mary or Mary E. She was prompt and eager to bring us to school or take us to a game or on a field trip. Mary always liked to cheer us on and joked with us when we won or respected our si- lence when we didn’t. Mary was sometimes the first person to say “Good Morning to us if we were on her route. She would “get after” us if we misbehaved, but we knew she genuinely cared for us. And Mary always made sure that each of her charges got into the house safely. Mary especially enjoyed field trips. She looked on them as a free education. This year she went with us to see the play “A Doll’s House” at Emporia State Univer- sity, to visit the Topeka Daily Capitol, and the Kansas Historical Museum. We chatted often about Mary’s favorite subject, her family. She was extremely proud of all of them especial- ly her grandson, who started attending Admire Grade School this year. Mary died April 29, 1986. We thank her family for sharing her with us, and we are thankful Mary shared her life with us. Coke is it!
