f The year is 2005. Northern Heights High School still sits in a pasture near Allen, Kan- sas, a blue-green bomb anxiously awaiting the members of the class of 1985 for their 20-year reunion. The first to arrive on the scene are Todd Soetebier and Jim Houck. Todd is the wild n' crazy principal of Northern Heights. His craziness is surpassed only by that of his superior, the Superintendent of USD 251, Jim Houck. Rumor has it that Jim got the job solely on his ability to answer tele- phones. Todd and Jim climb from a run-down, white Camaro and survey the scene before they reach back into the car to remove several paint brushes and rollers and some gallons of paint. Not only is this a class reunion, but it is also a paintine party in which the class will paint the building a more suitable color. Jim, being a conscientious superintendent, thought he could save the school district some money by having the class paint the building, instead of hiri.ig a professional to do the job and quickly conned the class into agreeing to do it. The front door of the school slams and out walks Gerald Shope. He became the Art teacher at Heights after Marilyn Thompson was hired by the Los Angeles Police Depart- ment to draw sketches of wanted criminals. A large tour bus arrives and off step Brian Peterson, Hank Oldham, Larry Williams, and Marichu del Rio. Marichu, who owns a large travel agency with its headquarters in Spain and branches all over the world, drove her tour bus from California for this mo- mentous occasion. Brian is a Hollywood producer who makes $40 million annually making Indiana Jones movies. Hank be- came a WBA champ known internationally after accidentally knocking out Muhammed Ali during the filming of a D-Con roach spray commercial. Larry is the first person ever to become a millionaire playing beer bottles. He took a short leave from his Euro- pean tour to come to the reunion. A sleek, black stretch limo pulls up and a chauffeur quickly steps out and opens the door for Sean Buffum and Gina Story. The chauffeur is Tony Mundy, who works for Buffum and Story. Sean is the owner of Playboy Inc. and Gina is his executive secre- tary. Kent Sorensen and Brad Karr arrive at the same time and park at opposite ends of the parking lot. They own rival autobody shops in Emporia. Brad says he got into the auto- body business because he always gave them so much business anyway. Another Limousine pulls up and Brian An- stey, Larry Walford and Steve Lindsey jump out with sub-machine guns. They are the top Secret Service Agents for the President of the United States, Everett Aye. Everett climbs out of the car followed by General Jim Dallen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Amy Jo Parks, Secretary of Educa- tion. Next to arrive is a tour bus with Dallas Cowboys' painted on the sides. Off steps Carmen Burton, personal hairstylist for the Cowboys. She is followed by Elaine Biggs and Lyn Bazil, two Cowboys cheerleaders who are among the highest paid NFL cheer- leaders. A smoke-gray Porsche pulls up and out steps Mike Voorhees. Mike is a rich and famous lawyer from Chicago and a merce- nary on weekends. An old '57 Chevy pulls up and out stumble Mike Keighley and Roger Birchmeier. Mike is living out his lifelong dream as a profes- sional beach bum. Roger went broke on the Stock Market and now works as a dishwash- er at Bonanza. A lone figure walks toward the school from the direction of Allen Lake. It's Greg Deck- er, who has just returned from Tibet, where he has been on a mission to find himself. A pick-up pulls up and Ronnie Bryant and Paul Blair walk out. Ronnie makes big bucks as a carpenter building designer out- houses and Paul owns a large ranch which covers most of Chase and Morris Counties. Paul provides most of Ronnie's business since ne has an outhouse at the corner of every square mile. The next to arrive on the scene is Craig Kimball. Craig spent 11 years playing bas- ketball for the Philadelphia 76ers and is now the NBA s MVW — Most Valuable Water- boy. A new Corvette pulls in and out step Kevin Briggs and May-Britt Aase. Kevin is the top fasnion consultant for the continent of Eur- ope and May is his top model. A black Ferrari zooms into the parking lot and out hop Tracy Eastman and Amy Weaver. Tracy got a starring role on Dal- las and became an overnight celebrity. Amy is also in show business; she is a breakdancer on the Lawrence Welk Show. A red Lamborghini drives up sedately. Out steps Scott O'Mara, the first American Pope. Michele Keys and Julie Jones are the next to arrive. Michele is the chain manager of McDonald's throughout Japan. Julie put Betty Crocker, Duncan Heins and Pillsbury out of business when she began mass-pro- ducing her new brand of tomato cake mixes. An Army tank approaches and out steps General Becky Britain, the first female Five- Star General in U.S. history. A Leer jet zooms in and lands on the football field. Off steps Brenda Randall. She is the richest woman in the world and owns a white tiger zoo in Monte Carlo. Behind her is Valarie Willard, who owns a cat museum in Nairobi. Carol DeWeese is the next to arrive. She teaches remedial mathematics to a large number of students with learning disabil- ities at KU. Teresa Phillips and Vicki Thornton drive up in a silver Rolls Royce. Both are million- aires. Vicki made her money by designing a rust-proof, stainless steel fire hydrant and Teresa became rich when she took a job as full-time psychiatrist for the Presicent of the United States. A small helicopter lands on the roof. Out hop Jennifer Luginsland, Petra Klement, and Susan Pond. Jennifer is the successful owner of 22 luxury resorts in Siberia. Petra is the first female Prime Minister of West Germany, and Susan is a Registered Nurse in Ethiopia. Glenda Elbe and Kim Johnson arrive in a South Lyon County School District van. Working for this school district keeps them both very busy. Kim is a Special Ed teacher and Glenda is a truant officer. Corrina Countryman zips in next on a new moped. She is now the mayor of Dunlap. Lisa Henning is the next to arrive. She is a rodeo star who gave up on gentle activities such as bull-riding and now holds the world record in wild rhinocerous-riding. A race car speeds through the parking lot. It's Jerry Voorhees, the famous race car driv- er who nas won the Indy 500 for eight con- secutive years. A group of Hell's Angels appears and parks at the end of the driveway, while their lead- er, Lisa Tucker, joins the reunion. The last member of the class pulls up in an expensive, late-model Chrysler. It's George Hilton, who makes millions working for Lee Iacocca polishing hubcaps. The group assembles and quickly paints the building, while reminiscing over tne past 20 years. At the close of the day the reunion ends, and the members of the class slowly depart, leaving Northern Heights behind them, a neon orange bomb, sitting in a pas- ture near Allen, Kansas, slowly recuperating from the 20-year reunion of tne unforgetta- ble class of 1985.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JEFFREY DALE WHEAT AND BRENT ALLEN COX Jeff Wheat at the age of 17 and Brent Cox at the age of 18, died Monday, February 4th, 1985, in a tragic accident that will forever be embedded in our minds. Both Jeff and Brent were great parts of Northern Heights High School. They were leaders not only in athlet- ics but also in the student body. They are very dearly missed. Although they did not get to do everything they had once planned, they left with us memories that we will cherish forever. The days were long; oh so long, timeJust seemed to stand still. It was as though we were being made to think of nothing other than our loss, or perhaps just to realize that it was real. The silence was deafening. Every breath could be heard. The usual laughter was not there: the only sounds that were present were the muffled cries of us students, even together it was more than we could bear. As the days wore on and the weeks progressed, the tension slowly lifted from us all. I guess we came to realize that Jeff and Brent weren V coming back, and the chance that our prayers would be an- swered was small. So we did the only thing that made us feel better. We talked of the good times that we shared; we laughed; we cried: we remembered how things were, and how deeply we all had cared. IN MEMORY OF YOU
