Congratulations are in order for the members of the 1983 football team. Their 10-1 record is the best in our school's history. Many of our team goals were reached this year, the first being capturing the league champion- ship for the second year in a row. One other goal was to go undefeated during our regular scheduled season which we did with 9-0. This was the first time in the school's history that this has been accomplished in football. The last goal was to play in the state play- offs. Again, our team defeated Oskaloosa in overtime, and moved on to the next round of competition which was the regionals at Pittsburg-Colgan where we received our only defeat of the year, and unfortunately, prevented us from further state competition. Many of our players received recognition for their outstanding play this year, beginning with All-League Honors: Doug Parks, 1st team offensive Guard Jeff Wheat, 1st team offensive Tackle and 1st team Defensive End Bruce Kayser, 1st team Offensive Back Field and 1st team Defensive Linebacker Brent Cox, 1st Team Defensive Lineman Second team honors went to Craig Kimball, Defensive End Tom Eckelberry, Offensive Back Charles Denison, Defensive Lineman Brad Karr, Defensive Linebacker Doug Parks, Defensive Back Tom Eckelberry, Defensive Back A high honor went to Bruce Kayser this year by being named to the All-State 2A Defensive team as a linebacker. My congratulations to these young players and the rest of our 1983 football team. They all worked hard for their record this year. And a special thank you to all our parents and fans, you too made our season a great and very
