In Memory Of Marcia Lynn Kusmaul We, the students attending Northern Heights during the 1981-82 school year went back to class — the shock, confusion, and sadness of Marcia’s death has dulled. Marcia Kusmaul, at the age of 18, died Wednesday, February 17th, 1982, at the K.U. Med. Center, of cancer. She was a great part of Northern Heights High School. Elected Vice-President of her Senior class and a basketball cheerleader, she also sang in chorus for four years, and was active in plays and basketball her Freshman-Junior years. Copies of her senior picture were traded with us, her friends, and one also accompanied her obituary. Marcia was elected Queen of Courts, a tribute we felt would naturally have been hers had Marcia been able to attend school her senior year. During the ceremony, when Marcia was announced as Queen, Janet, her younger sister, accepted the flowers and crown, and placed them on a vacant throne. Marcia had planned to be present for the ceremony, but red carnations had to be simultaneously delivered to Marcia’s hospital bed in Kansas City. Five days later, Marcia went to live with Jesus. Marcia is missed. She did not live long enough to do everything she had once planned, and although some people knew her for only a short time, everyone has gained by knowing Miss Marcia Lynn Kusmaul, whether they knew her for only a day or 18 years. Marcia’s parents, Alan and Wilma Kusmaul, do not have “just two” daughters. Glenda may not always live in Topeka, and Janet surely won’t always live at home, but Marcia will always live in Heaven.
