The 1977 football season started off awkwardly as the Northern Heights Wildcats lost to the Eagles of Canton- Galva, 6-14. The Cats more determined than ever, came back the same week to beat Burlingame, 8-0. In the second overtime against the Flinthills Mustangs, Clayton Jenkins made the deciding extra point to finish the game, 13-12. The team then traveled to Thayer, to con- quer the Flyers, 19-0. The eights Has Second tables slowly turned when the Wildcats visited Mission Valley. The Cats yielded a 6-12 loss, after four, wet, grueling overtimes, on the Viking's rain-soaked field. The team returned to their home field to play the Olpe Eagles for Homecoming. Tough luck plagued the Wildcats, and Olpe was able to defeat them 44-14, handing Heights their only league loss. The Wildcats then traveled to Madison for another league game. After four short quarters, the Wildcats brought home another victory, defeating the Bulldogs, 34-19. Travel- ing to Waverly, the Wildcats looked for a tough game, with the Bulldogs having a record of 6-1 overall. The defensive squad brought home the honors, scoring three touchdowns and blocking a punt. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Wildcats went home with a 33-12 win and a sure second place in the Lyon County League. November 4 was Parent's night and the last high school football game for the NHHS Seniors. The First half, the Wildcats were held to a 6-0 lead over Lebo. Final- ly, at the end of the fourth quarter, the Wildcats left the field with a 22-0 win. Bob Williams headed the Wildcat team and was aided by assistant coaches; Ed Bowen and Randy Ackerman. 28
