Among the many projects for the preparation of NHHS for the school year, included the interchanging of the art room and the teachers planning area. Gene Wallace's many jobs are all concerned with the upkeep of the building and providing students and faculty with a clean and comfrotable place to work. He met these never ending jobs with a smile and a mop. For the cooks, 1975 brought added responsibiities be- cause of the discontinuation of government food commodi- ties. Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Davis continued to provide us delicious, nutritious, and well-balanced meals. As usual, this year brought excitement, as bus drivers met the challenges of Kansas weather and county highways, not to ment ion coping with the students who rode their buses. They lost their first two games, but won their next three. They went into the league tourn- ament with high hopes, but suffered a disappointing first round loss. The girls then traveled to Herington for the regional tournament. After winning their first two games, a very tired bunch of girls lost to St. Marys. They then regrouped, and ended the season with a victory, taking third place in the regional. Renee Pearson was selected for the All-Lyon County team at the end of the season. The team, coached by Marshall Spade, started the season in fine fashion by win- ning their first two games. They then lost several close games, but rebounded by defeating Hartford in a one point thriller. An overtime victory for the Wildcats followed against Reading. The season was nearly over but the 'Cats escaped with another one point victory over Burlingame. The final game of the regular sea- son ended in defeat, but Northern Heights was resting in fourth place in the league standings, tied with Flinthills and Hamilton. Tournament action was limited for the 'Cats as Northern Heights was eliminated from the county tourna- ment in the first round. Then, the hard luck of the draw struck us down, as we drew Lyndon and suffered defeat in the first game of the regional tournament to a very tough team. Ken Rhudy was honored for his fine play throughout the season as he was named to the all-league team. KMSfe. Girls Go to Sub-State The 1974-75 basketball season proved to be an interesting and exciting year for the Northern Heights High School girls basketball team and all of the people who followed them. The girls, under the patient leadership of Coach Lee, hustled and scrapped their way to third in the league and third in the Lyon County Tournament. It was this same hustle that propelled the girls to second place in the Regionals and to a berth in Sub- state. The girls season ended the first night. Our top six, Joyce Bush, Kathy Schiesser, Sharon Stinson, Tam Boyce, Lisa Coffman, and Renee Pearson played their best game of the year only to meet defeat at the hands of a tough Basehor team. The final score was 59 to 57. Renee Pearson was honored twice during the year as she was selected to the Lyon County all-tournament team and the all-league team. SEASON RECORD OPP. Our Pep Club spirit was nearly at its peak when the Wildcat football team won its first game in three years. We spread our spirit throughout the communi- ty and soon had everyone as proud of the Northern Heights teams as we were. We sponsored several different activi- ties this year to make the community realize how fired up we were. We held a rally parade touring each small town and getting everyone rallied up for our first game of the year. Later, we held a Homecoming Parade in Allen and attracted many spectators! We sold concessions and cake chances, and we sponsored all sockhops during the basketball season. The Homecoming and Queen of Courts Dances were our two major projects of the year. It was a high-spirited year for the Wildcat Pep Club! 50 Back Row: V. Aye, K. Morris, Mrs. Sue Winter--Sponsor, G. Bender, T. Boyce, C. Turpin. Fourth Row: G. Shope, D. Aye, J. Weeks, L. Edmiston, H. South Pacific—Talent, Greasepaint, Nerves, Success The opening night of South Pacific was more unusual than planned due to a sudden attack of flu upon one of the lead characters, Roy Mann, Lt. Joe Cable. Mr. A. E. Powell made an emergency stand-in for Joe's talking part while Mr. Robins adeptly handled the vocal parts. Mr. Powell added spice and humor as well as saved the day. Roy recovered for the second performance and both nights, November 22nd and 26th, were huge successes. Our trio of fine directors--Mr. Robins, Mrs. Staten, and Mr. Powell--helped immensely with the unusual pre- sentation of Shakespearian Theatre in the Round. The action of the play takes place on two islands dur- ing a lull with the fighting in Japan. Colorful characters consisted chiefly of marines, seabees, nurses, sailors, and islanders. The play told the love stories of UNS nurse Nellie Forbush and a french man Emile de Becque, as well as Lt. Joe Cable and Liat, a tonkanese girl. After many diversions, the South seas romance ended happily leaving us with fond memories of our South Pacific. Staff Sgt. Wildcat Honor Society Helps Students The Wildcat Honor Society Chapter of the National Honor Society opened the year with the initiation of nine new members bringing the total membership to 15. It was decided to prepare and sell the 1975-76 Activities Calendar. A program was needed that would create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character. After much discussion, the members decided to implement a tutor- ing program to help students prepare for their final exams. The National Honor Society hopes that this is the first of many programs that they can organize and carry out in the years ahead to help our school and community. The theme, When Will I See You Again? , fit the royalty well as Jerome and Kathleen will both be graduating this spring. Our last year's Queen of Courts, Janet McAntee, crowned Kathleen and presented her with a bouquet of red carnations. The attendants to the Queen were Lisa Coffman, and Terri Besack. Attendants to the King were Howard Myers, Kenny Rhudy, and Kevin Crab- tree. The class was put in charge of assembling a school newspaper and the annual. We started the year by organizing our newspaper, HEIGHTS HIGHLIGHTS. Katherine Barger, Editor, and Marcinell Gillispie, Assistant Editor, made sure we had everything ready to go. Putting together a very special annual proved to be more of a chore than we bargained for. But finally with time and plenty of patience we present to you what we feel is one of the best books to ever record the history of North- ern Heights. Jerome Hansen—Asst. This bright comedy set in the era of the 1920's is about the Frank Gilbreth family. The family consisting of twelve children, plus one dog, have problems in their efficiently run household. The complications of a visiting psychologist, a concerned doctor and two male suitors add to the laughter and delight of this play. Many late nights of work were spent preparing for the play. Fyre was the band that played. They got everyone to boogie down. The theme was Stairway to Heaven. The whole place rang with joy and sound. Yes, it wasa night we will always treasure and when we look back on what has been, it will be special especially for the seniors who will never have one again. J.L. One we have been looking forward to, yet hate to pass. This past year has brought upon us decisions, and many thoughts of our past and our future. Times of laughter and times of sorrow have crossed our path. Many hours have been spent thinking of what our future holds. These thoughts have frightened us and confused us—maturing us for adulthood. And now on this final night we realize we are ready. Ready for our own future and individualism we have yet to achieve. 73 . . . Mem'ries may be beautiful, and yet, what's too painful to remember we simply choose to forget. So it's laughter we will remember whenever we remember the we way were; The way we were.
