Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1964 volume:

The building which presently houses N.E.C.C. has a long and proud history, dating back to 1 868 when it served as town hall and ed- ucational center for the town of Bradford. Later it became an ele- mentary school and in 1916 a new w ing was added. In 1961 this old but still sound building was renovated and 186 students registered at the new N.E.C.C. under the Directorship of Mr. Bentley. Three years have passed, enroll- ment has reached 450, Mr. Bentley has been appointed president of the College, and plans are now neces- sarily being formulated for expan- sion. On the Shores of Lake Ken- oza, 1 1 1 acres are being reserved for the beautiful new campus of N.E.C.C. It is anticipated the first build- ings will be erected in 1967. The new campus will eventually encom- pass classroom buildings, science and technology buildings, cultural center including auditorium and li- brary, cafeteria and gymnasium. Here indeed is progress and stu- dents and graduates may be justly proud of N.E.C.C. — past, present, and future. NORTHERN ESSEX COMMUNITY COLLEGE HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS PRESENTS THE LUMEN 1964 DEDICATION Recognizing the invaluable in- fluence of our President as the founder of our College and a pio- neer in the Massachusetts Com- munity C ollege movement, we the class of 1964 in appreciation of his outstanding leadership, ed- ucational dedication and love for the Student Body, Faculty and Community, hereby dedicate the Lumen to him as a token of es- teem and respect. 4 HAROLD BENTLEY President of the College ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY ADMINISTRATION HAROLD BENTLEY. Within time, however, with the increased enrollment, we have endeavored to produce a bigger and better paper — a newspaper that will give praise where praise is due but will not hesitate to criticize. The views expressed in the OBSERVER are entirely those of the Editorial Staff and in no way do they reflect the views of Northern Essex. 68 A ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATION President Ronald Richards Vice President William Tobin Secretaries Norma Cormier Deborah Richardson Treasurers Susanne Goodhue David Moorehouse Chairman of Admissions Committee Peter Gibson Chairman of Social Function Committee Brian Riddle Chairman of Speaker Committee Jack Jenne Gary Bilodeau The American Accounting Association was formally charted and approved by the Student Council in 1962 with a general membership of Business Administration and Accounting Association is at the University of Wis- consin.
