NEW LIBRARY FINALLY MATERIALIZES Do you remember when Dodge Library was the building across from Richard's Hall where the odds for finding a book due the next day was as good as winning Megabucks? I he Dodge Library was started in a one room classroom in the Boston Y. It was expanded to two classrooms in the basement of the present Dodge Library, and expanded further to become the library of the university. The reason most of us have spent hours searching for a book that we cannot find is because of a lack of continuous funding — a shortcoming that, hopefully, will not plague the new library. In order to build the new library the university came up with the Century Fund to raise the necessary money that would be needed for the project. Since there is a lack of available space at Northeastern, the university decided to build the library on part of the Hayden Parking Lot. The design of the library was done by the Architects Collaborative and the construction was done by the Jackson Company. I he new library will feature the use of on- line computer card catalogs, a photo copy center, large capacity study rooms, increased seating capacity and an updated resource center, including language and record labs. All of this sounds great, unfortunately its completion date of 1990 means that we will not get to use it. However, in a few years, I suppose we could come back to the new library and try to find that desperately needed book. Jennie Lee Jim Cilmurlin 18 Caiilrtrnn
