The administration announced the leasing of a St. Stephens Street building which would house up per classmen beginning our Junior year. With the groundbreaking of Speare Hall, out- siders knew for sure that Northeastern had co-eds. Our basketball team, again, visited the NCAA Finals, and, again, lost. The raising of a Christ- mas tree in the Quad that year began a tradition, and a raising of tuition was announced . . . an- other tradition. Also that year, the perennially silent student body raised it ' s voice in favor of giving the Student Center development priority. - A new tradition comes . . . and an old parking lot goes. 22 history
