EUGENE J. BLACKMAN Chairman, Department of Drama, Speech and Music Director, Silver Masque Drama Society One man shown on these pages needs no formal introduction. The other, although not as readily recognized by we students, nonetheless has been greatly responsible for the strides made by our University during the past five years, as well as influencing our individual beings. As Dean of Administration, Kenneth W . Ryder was the ultimate liason between all students and student organizations and the administration. He was, from a student ' s viewpoint, a behind the scenes man who figured prominently in provid- ing the impetus for the early construction of the Student Center, and as the man with the answers to our questions about Flip-Flop . It is impos- sible, however, to determine to what truly great extent Dean Ryder ' s actions influenced us, for all too often, one ' s meritorious actions are shrouded behind the curtain of bureaucracy. Never behind the curtain, however, but always in full view of his audience, was Professor Eugene J. Blackman, whose dedication as director of the Silver Masque provided us many pleasurable hours in Alumni Auditorium. For those of us fortunate to have been directed or taught by him, we knew he was a true showman. And who, but a showman would have been given responsibility as a prime mover in the establishment of our cultural activities program. The success of this program to date, is but a reflection of the success which Prof. Blackman has brought to the Silver Masque, and the success he will bring to the drama major he initiated two years ago. It is to these gentlemen, whose actions have so influenced our very existence at Northeastern Uni- versity, that we dedicate this, the 1966 CAUL- DRON.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE The Class of 1966 will be identified in future years with a distinctive new era in higher education at Northeastern University. When you entered as freshmen in 1961, the University an- nounced the start of its major development pro- gram to broaden and improve its academic cur- ricula and to significantly expand its physical facilities. Great strides have been made in both areas. The most vital developments were the establish- ment during your first year of doctoral study at the University and the completion during your senior year of the neiv Student Center Building addition. Yours is the first graduating class to have been able to take full advantage of this new and modern facility. I congratulate you upon your graduation from Northeastern University. Through the experience you have gained under the Co-operative Plan of Education, you are in a particularly advantageous position to rapidly assume important roles in our society. God bless each of you in your chosen career. ASA S. KNOWLES President ■fp .
