NA57i.Vo7 It is with great pleasure and with sincere gratitude that we, the Classes of 1946 and 1947, dedicate this twenty-fifth volume of the Cauldron to Professor John Butler Pugsley. He is a man with whom all members of our two classes have come in contact many times in their undergraduate years. He has always heen a faithful friend and a valuahle adviser, and he has made a contribution to the college life of each of us. Professor Pugsley received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Colby College in 1905. After graduate work at Columbia University, he held positions as principal and superintendent of schools in towns in Ver- mont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. During the first World War he served as Athletic Officer of the 26th Division, a position in line with his skills as an athlete. Upon his discharge in 1918 he came to Northeastern University as Assistant Professor of Mathematics. A short time later, in September, 1919, he was appointed to the position of Registrar, the position which he has held since that time. It is interest- ing to note that Professor Pugsley has served as adviser to veterans of World War I and World War II. • edicalion
