Uh? Enriheastern 3 cm QInllege 1955 4 editatinn OREN NEED: A GREAT EDUCATOR The personality that is Oren Need's is seldom contained in a single individual. The qualities that are so much a part of him include a great desire for learning, the ability to master the subject material, and to impart this knowledge to others. The day or night does not contain the hours that students who, having diffi- culty with an assignment, have sought and received assistance in his office or his home. The result of these qualities is legend; those students who have served under him continue in other institutions of higher learning and achieve. But this man is more than a teacher; he is an institution man. His loyalty to Northeastern Oklahoma ABLM College has been far beyond the call of duty. The Engineering Club under his guidance and direction has been one of the outstanding organizations of this or any other school. No homecoming would be complete without his marshalling the parade, and certainly the parade itself would be lacking without his guidance and direction in promoting the engineering float. This man is an inspiration not only to the students but to the college. His cheerful attitude, his great zest for living make him loved and respected both on and off the campus. The administration, the faculty, and the students consider it an honor to serve with such a man and to dedicate with great pride The Viking to him. Counseling has been one of the strong qualities that has made Oren Need an outstanding instructor. Oren Need is easily recognized by his favorite transportation, his jeep. This day his jeep was chained to a tree so it would be waiting when he finished his work. Not all work is done in a comfortable classroom. He served as material officer for the AFROTC program. Barbara Gale Duncan, :1 home economics major from Haskell, is current secretary for the Student Senate and has served as Senator-at- large. She is a member of the Deans Honor Roll, Order of Freyja, Phi Theta Kappa, Home Eco- nomics Club, Pre-Med Club, Professional Edu- cators, Society, chorus, and Judiciary Council. She is an honorary member of the Aggie Society, secretary-treasurer of the Sophomore class, and girls, dorm proctor. Cynthia Seamster, a journalism major from Miami, was the Norse Wind editor for 1964. She has served as reporter for Phi Theta Kappa and the Home Economics Club, and as secretary for Press Club. She is on the President's Honor Roll and Deanis Honor Roll. 1964 - John Carter, 3 political science major from Miami, is the president of the Student Senate. An active sport's participant, he has lettered in varsity track. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Dean's Honor Roll, French Club, and Inter- collegiate Knights. He was the Freshman class president in 1963. Robert Mendell, a Tulsa accounting major, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Deanis Honor Roll, and President's Honor Roll. He has been aCtive in sports, serving as baseball team captain, All- American Junior College Baseball team, All- Regional Shortstop, and intra-mural sports.He is a member of the Intercollegiate Knights. 1965 Sandra McConnell is a business major from Wyandotte, Oklahoma. She served as secretary for Phi Theta Kappa, Press Club and Business Club. She was also selected as Press Club Queen. She is a member of the Norse Wind Staff. She has been honored academically by being listed on the Presidents Honor Roll and the Dean's Honor Roll. Kendall Marlene Harrell, a music education major from Chelsea, was selected as Phi Theta Kappa queen and Aggie Princess. She has served as Freshman class secretary, vice-president of Phi Theta Kappa, YWA president, and BSU executive council member. A member of the Girls, vocal ensemble and College girls' quartet, she had the lead role in a college musical her Freshman year. She is affiliated with the Order of Freyia. ownmum : Joseph M. Smith, who is a McCune, Kansas, range management major has served as regional president of Intercollegiate Knights and was a national executive council member of the IK. He has been listed on the Deanhs Honor Roll and selected as Phi Theta Kappa president. He was an Aggie Society Secretary and Aggie Day official. He participated in intra-mural sports. He was also a part-time secretary for the English de- partment. Collis R. Geren is a member of the Presidenfs Honor Roll and Dean's Honor Roll. A science education major from Commerce, he received a $500 scholarship from NBC. He has been a mem- ber of the Pre-Med Club, Intercollegiate Knights, and vice-president of Phi Theta Kappa. Robert S. Turtle, a chemical engineering major from West Des Moines, Iowa, has been listed on the President's Honor Roll and Dean's Honor Roll. He is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa, Engineers, Club, and Student Senate. He has been a scribe for the Intercollegiate Knights anW has led the Wesley Foundation as president. He re- ceived the NBC non-resident scholarship his freshman year. Linda Sue Burnside is a home economics major from Bluejacket. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa, Order of Freyja, Dean's Honor Roll, Pte-Med Club, and Home Economics Club. She was a BSU executive councilman and de- votional chairman of YWA. She was also a lab assistant. Joe Clapp, agricultural education major from Wyandotte, is a member of the Aggie Society and served as Sergeant-at-Atms for one se- mester for this club. He was a member of the Pre-Med Club for one semester. He ranked as second high individual in judging at the South- western Livestock Exposition at Fort Worth. i . While the requisite for membership is based on the achievement of a 3 point average in 15 hours of study, other factors influ- ence the selection of candi- dates for membership.
