Outside achievements lead into aca- demic achievement as this was the first year that Northeastern had five nomi- nees for the Merit Scholarships — Jeremy Brya, Tori Morhand, John Gillikin, Angela Gray and Mark Cham- berlain. The Morehead Scholarship, another outstanding award, was repre- sented by Patton McDowell who won the local and the district competition. At the end of the year over 100,000 dollars worth of scholarships will be awarded to Northeastern students for outstanding academic achievements. Even the athletic program produced excellence as Marcus Wooton received an award from the Army for his excellence in soccer and Anthony Smith was actively being recruited by such universities as Clemson, Alabama and USC. Such stu- dents instilled pride in the school and in the community and showed that whether in or out of school working hard paid off in all aspects of life.
