The Language Arts Department of Northeast consists of eleven members. This department is vitally im portant to the total development of each student. Knowing English enables students to be aware of every phase of the Language Arts program: reading. writing, speaking. and listening. Reading is important be- cause one learns to communicate well with other people and is able to interpret their feelings. Writing lets people know how one feels. Being able to speak can help one express himself adequately. Of equal sinifi- cance is being able to listen. One learns most by listening because this.is the key to learning. For the first time in several years. this department is teaching composition and literature during the same semester. Al- though the two areas are integrated, one has an important relationship to the other.
