The first number came out Qctober 13. In spite of the unlucky date it met with an enthusiastic reception from the student body and eight hundred copies were sold including nearly four hundred yearly subscriptions. Despite its extreme youth, the 1926 Hi-Life set a precedent that will be hard to beat by taking first honors in the contest tor the best junior high newspaper at the State Tnterscholastic Press Contest while staff members made a clean sweep of individual prizes with firsts in news story, feature story, and cartoon contests. The makeup and the content showed great improvement as the staff became more adept at newspaper work. The sport stories, especially, were exceptionally well written and accurate. The editorial page with its timely editorials, its en- tertaining Stroller column, and its clever jokes, personals, and its cartoons con- tributed by Rufus Hill played a large part in making the HI-LITE one of the best of junior high papers. The business force was especially capable and in- dustrious and their industry and salesmanship alone made possible a successful year for the HI-LITE.
