| i, out themselves is a start for—— Handling parents Figuring out parents is tough for some teenagers, partly because the teenagers haven’t figured themselves out. Difficulty in ex- pressing what’s happening within them translates into difficulty in communicating with others, especially parents. The most common parent teen problem is what teenagers perceive as overprotectiveness. “What really bothers me is the way she keeps asking so many questions ab out everything — like when I am on the phone or talking to one of my sisters,” said LaTrice Riggins, a freshman. “What really bothers me about parents is that they don’t trust me. They feel insecure about me going out with friends. They always ask who they are and where we’re go- ing,” said Scherryl Miller, a sophomore.
