With eleven letter- men reporting to Coach Bun Galloway, the Rocket mentor soon molded them into a for- midable grid crew. H blocked punt and a recovery in the end zone provided the margin of victory as the Rockets turned back Hastings 7-U in the first game of the '46 season, The fans that crowded into the new O. N. Magee Memorial stadium the following Friday, were treated to a thrilling football game as they eked out a 2-U victory over the Beatrice Orangemen. The Iunior lays from Creighton Prep hung the first loss of the season on the gallant North- east grid team as they triumphed 26-6. Falls City ran up a score of l2 points against them but were later forced to forfeit the game due to the use of an ineligible player. Lincoln high retained the city championship with a score of 20-U. The Northeast eleven dis- played a good defense but seemingly could not crack the Links' forward wall. The game at Crete found them engaged in a hard fought contest, losing when Crete scored in the final seconds to win 5-U. 'The Black and White eleven swung into high gear as they humbled York 45-U. Remaining in their winning ways, they outclassed Fairbury 13-O on a rain-soaked field. Northeast finished a successful season at Omaha as they tamed the Benson Bunnies 13-5.
