When hustling through the halls to classes, a Norseman may hear a good-natured laugh, a voice raised in anger, the clang- ing of a locker door as it is shut, the humming of a new tune, and the ringing of footsteps. In a classroom, the slamming of textbooks on the desk, the scrape of chairs as everyone settles down for an hour of learning, the rise and fall of the teacher’s voice, the hum of the radiator as it starts its process of warming, the buzzing of the students as the teacher leaves the room, and the quiet of a test broken only by the scratching of pens. Laughter, applause, songs, cheers—all of these make the rafters ring during assemblies. Silence reigns when one pauses for a moment of study in an empty hall, or when the doors close on the quiet halls of a deserted Northeast. At a game reverberate the yells of enthusiasm, the school song as we wing our way to victory, and the jubilant shouts of the boys as one more game is added to their list of conquests. Yet some things are not heard but felt. They are the superabundant spirit of students and faculty every time the school song is sung, the surge of pride as new honors come to Northeast, and the ever-recurring wonder of that deep loyalty felt toward Northeast after graduation. 10

Northeast s mascot, Victor the Viking, welcomes Gisle Sporbcrg. our foreign exchange student from Germany, to Northeast High School. We have enjoyed Gisle's being with us this year, and we hope she enjoyed us as much. Picking Up Momentum Ninth grade boys and girls attended a family .relations clinic given at the first of the year by the Board of Educa- tion. 12
