B. Greene, the principal of Northeast High School, is a man with a very fine personality and professional attainment. He has been prin- cipal of Northeast since it opened in 1937. With this help and his calm, reassuring manner he has built our school into one of the best. Preceding his assignments at Northeast High, he was assistant principal at Harding Junior High and a teacher in the math depart- ment. Mr. Greene has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oklahoma City University and a Masters of Arts Degree from Columbia University. UUINIIIDUL UND Mace Spangler came to Northeast in 1939 as a teacher. He served in World War II, and returned as assistant principal in which capacity he has worked except while he served in the Korean emergency in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Spangler is very friendly and understand- ing. He is usually busy, but is ready and willing to help whenever needed. Besides being assist- ant principal he is eleventh grade counselor and instructor in aviation. Before he came to Northeast as assistant principal, he was assistant principal at Taft Junior High and taught at Roosevelt junior High. Yet he has done more for Northeast than to build a win- ning football team. He has instilled in the boys and the student body a feeling of sportsmanship and loyalty to our school. We have all absorbed some of his far and desare.' The Student Body of N.H.S. cannot express its feeling of gratitude. The three assistant coaches we have at Northeast are of the highest quality and charac- ter and they deserve much of the credit of building a winning football team. Coach Walker has said many times the assistant coaches work harder than he does and get very little of the credit. Coach Karns coached the varsity and the NB' teams. Coach Meredith is line coach and Coach Swoveland coached the C squad and scouted the opposition. They did a great job. With the smell of football in the air we start off the sea- son with a 'bang' by defeating the first three teams we meet. Time was to tell that we would meet our first and only defeat by a Texas team. A good start in football meant the year was go- ing to be the best Northeast had seen since back in the '40s. The Norseman Scroll provided the information to bring the masses up to date on all the gossip and happenings of the summer. OCTOBER 'Football' rolled along sweeping down on all of the Norseman opponents with smashing victories, including knocking down the number one team in the state, N. W. Classen. The Norket Carnival was one event of the year when girls nook over for the night. The whole student body enjoyed all the attractions that a carnival can hold. NOVEMBER In this month came the end of the football season which left smashing victories and only one defeat. The football record was the best Northeast had had in fourteen years. Every- one will remember this year for the wonderful football team we had. Thanksgiving was cele- brated with two assemblies: one to show our appreciation by gifts to the underprivileged, the other was to give the student body an insight into our forefathers' dreams and plans. DECEMBER The holiday not being far away, and basketball taking over the spotlight, this month was a busy one. The first All-School play was presented to the delight and amusement of the audience. Basketball started slowly, but it gained power with the winning of the Invitational Toumament. The Northeast Highschool Band pre- sented the first of the pre-Christmas assemblies, which was followed by another inspirational as- sembly, presented by the Choir. JANUARY Back to school and right into the pol- itical campaigns and elections. Basketball mov- ed right along with usually two games a week. Cold weather set in and everything moved faster. The semester was drawing to a close with the examinations and all of that. FEBRUARY The new officers were installed in their different offices and everyone settled down to a long semester with very few vacations. The basketball boys moved into another toumament in a small blizzard. A high point of the month came when the studentshad the privilege of hear- ing a wonderful Brotherhood Assembly. MARCH Basketball season came toward its close with the Regional Toumament. We came out on top with the title of Regional Champions. We were defeated in the State Class A Toumament but ended a good basketball season. The halls of Northeast were filled with strangely clad stu- dents. This meant only one thing, Foreign Lan- guage Week, which we all looked forward to. 'Great Expectations' appeared on the stage of Northeast to the delight of the student body. The Band presented its second assembly..Test! - Test! - Test! The week before Easter was taken up with tests. Easter services were held and then a two day vacation! APRIL As 'Spring was sprung , out came the baseball team which had a wonderful season. Track also took the spotlight with a very good season. The Viking Varieties came along with a very talented group of performers and a good time for all. MAY The two awards assemblies were held to honor the lettermen of Northeast. Scholarships and other scholastic honors were bestowed upon members of the student body. Hoorah! The '56 Nordly appears! APPRECIATION As Editor of the '56 Nordly, I would like to recognize and express the thanks of the staff to all of the merchants and busi- nessmen who helped Our Yearbook. Their wholehearted support has helped us immensely in the purchasing of advertising for the book dust-cover. The entire faculty of Northeast has been under- standing and very helpful. The student body has cooperated in the support of the yearbook by having their pictures made and purchasing the '56 Nordly. Thanks to all of you, Jim Ruster .96- EUNHUUE Jgwhd, ii,,i:fQ,.
