The Nordlys Staff of 1954 and 1955 has enjoyed many hours of fun and labor to create the 'typical teenager , the ring of the voices, and the joy of this youth. Bennett Board Member Board Member -6. .1' gens MR. J. B. GREENE Mace Spangler, our assistant principal, is also Tenth grade level counselor, boys tennis coach, aviation instructor for both class and flight training at Northeast. Except while sewing in World War II and in the Korean emergency in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Spangler has been here since the second year Northeast opened. He is always busy and ready to help whenever possible. Preceding his assignment here he was Vice- principal at Taft junior Highschool. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Mas- ters Degree in Educational Administration f m Oklahoma University. He has also done s work on a Doctorate Degree in Second Education. QU J. B. Greene, the principal of Northeast High School, is to everyone at Northeast, a man of rare personality and professional attainments. Getting things done in a quiet but firm way, he knows how to be a friend when a person needs one. Interested but never excited, his voice which is calm, even, reassuring under the most trying circumstances, reflects his character. In the early days when Northeast was being built Mr. Greene was undisturbed by the sound of saw and hammer, picking his way among carpenter saw-horses, stacked lumber, wet paint, and plaster with great composure, yet with some caution. While the carpenters were building a school house, he and his associates were laying the foundation for the future. Preceding his assignment at Northeast, he was Vice-principal at Harding junior High- school and a teacher in the mathematics depart- ment there. Mr. Greene has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma City University and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University. He is our principal and we are proud of him. 'f' E . f ,wWv,,, - MR. Many events during the summer kept us together, but seeing old friends and making new ones every day is always more fun. Football season got off to a good start: with the game with john Marshall. We also played Central, and Yukon. This class and the Scroll staff collected new journalism ideas at a convention in Norman. The 'Back to School' assembly the 23rd, was the best way to settle down to some serious studies. 0ctober This month began with the homecoming game with E1 Reno. A hard fought game. Other games this month were Classen, Grant, and Crooked Oak. We're proud to say we won the last two games. The Junior Class pay assembly the 12th,was really great. The annual P . T. A. open house the 19th gave our parents a chance to meet our teachers. The month ended with the School Play, a fine production of 'Heaven Can Wait' with jerry Hagee and Diane File. November The Norket Camival to raise money for the football banquet was the big event of the month. Their plan- ning made it a big success. The 4th was the game with Wynniwood, the llth was the game with South- east, the Coronation of Sue Nelson, Band Queen, drew a big crowd. The choir attended the Festival in Stillwater, for combined choirs. School was out two days for Thanksgiving and every one came back happier and heavier. Basketball Season began with our first game with Guthrie the 30th, 47-43. December The best football season in many years was topped off by a banquet at Beverly's hide-a-way. Dicky Crosley was crowned Norket Dream Boy and jerry jones Norket Pin-Up Boy. Home basketball games were with Chickasha 68-44, Capitol Hill 59-53. The Family Relation Clinic for Seniors was the 8th, 9th, and 10th. The Christmas season was highlighted by the Christmas Assembly. The Y-Teen dance was held the 22nd. The snow 12 inches deep couldn't keep the Holiday dance, the 28th from being a huge success. January Through the confetti and streamers we got our first good look at the new year. Campaigning began the 4th and the week was devoted to the election of Student Council Officers: Pres. Rochelle Bachrach, Vice-Pres. Sue Parkhurst, -rj-iffy Treas. Carolyn Baker. Another All City Dance followed our home game with Chickasha 56-25. Other home games with Nor- man 67-42, Classen 57-42, and john Marshall 64-44. BY an flgdmdy The Norket Mixer followed the Classen Game with the coronation of Kellis Armer and Rex Bagget, Nordlys Queen and King. February Everyone recovered from Semester tests last month in time for the All School Play 'Lost Horizon' the 4th. The only home basketball game this month was with Central 54-53. The P. T. A. sponsored a Pan- cake Dinner tl-c 25th with two basketball games. The girls played Southeast 54-14 and the boys, played Guthrie 56-38, followed by an All City Dance. March The time again to honor the basketball boys at the end of the season. This year the Norkets had a basketball game, to raise money, the Seniors vs. the jr. and Soph. It was a good game and the Norkets went all out to please the basketball boys. Foreign Language week brought color, in costumes and signs, to NHS from the 7th-llth. , Under the superior direction of Mr. White our annual band assembly was better than ever. The first Viking Varieties was a smash hit. The Senior girls chorus line, the Y-Teen pirates, and the Norket Minstrel show were only a few of the wonder- ful acts which made it something to remember. The home economics Classes Easter fashion was full of hints on the latest styles for this holiday. The Y- Teens Easter services started each morning of the Sth, 6th, and 7th with a devout spiritual thought from guest speakers. Honor Society initiation for both jr. High and Sr. High, the 15th was a proud day for the many students of Northeast who made the grades. The band took many trips the week of 25-29 to play, ending that week and the month with their spring concert. May The first week of May was hot with campaign speeches for the election of next year's officers. We're proud of them and know they'll do a good job for NHS. The 10th, many happy students were thrill- ed with the scholarships and awards given in the annual awards assembly. Honoring the graduating Norkets the juniors gave them a picnic. We really had fun and we'll miss those good times. The Sen- iors began the events before graduation with the Senior Assembly the 20th, the Senior Breakfast the 24th, at Beverly's hide-a-way,and the Senior Sermon, Memorial Day, and the long awaited Commencement june lst. lt's hard to express the feelings of gradu- ation, glad to start a different life and very sad to leave the wonderful memories of Northeast behind us. Good luck to those leaving and the best of everything to the 'Youth of Northeast' of future years. -l16- wlskwggw mg WN fi kwa +ciifXMQE fm Q32 MMMQQ2 Q Ng Wvlg W0 QR Aff? ww NX Q W b R QW W,K5gfQfi fQ x i1gi? 4ff?
