It seems that it was only yesterday when we were having an awful time finding the right room and keeping out of the way of the seniors. Our junior high years slipped by with Dorothy Stephens, as always, stealing everyone's boy friend, and that was the time too when jackie Anderson's hobby was sports instead of Gene Shaw. Harvey Intemann, and Peggy O'Neal walked away with the Iunior High awards. The long awaited day came-seniors at last! VVC could have the unmitigatcd pleasure of torturing those seventh gradersf' But the fuzi soon wore off, the months flew by, and we realized that the six years were almost over. Soon it would be time when we would sorrowfully say Goodbye to Northeast. .A 3 V I, rl. 1 ' 'A'. ' J X 'V 11 '1 A! 1 xg v. It resulted directly and indirectly in the planting of 1,505 trees, more than half of which were utility trees, chiefly pecan trees. ln the pursuit of this project, the Council sent out by regular mail 1,000 letters to patrons and another 1,000 letters by special messengers, they distributed mimeographcd instructions on the planting and care of trees, they presented their project before a joint meeting oi the l'.-T.A. and the East Side lm proveuicnt Society and also before a joint meeting of the Senior .ind Iunior Chambers of Commerce and State Forestry Associationg and they ordered and distributed 899 trees for planting by Northeast H S stu dents. ' Their outstanding work in the tree planting campaign, under the direction of Betty lane Hoch was recognized by the state in their asking Wilbur Care, the president of the student body, to speak on the same program with Governor Kerr at the Arbor Day planting of a pecan tree on the state capitol grounds ln developing this project, so ably organized by the first semester Council under the leadership of President Glenn Smith and carried to completion by the second semester Council and its president Wilbur Care, the Council did not neglect its other responsibilities, Under its leadership, the lull Red Cross quota for membership, Childrens Fund, and Special Funds were met, and its full quota of Red Cross Christmas boxes was filled. During both semesters the Council has done a satisfactory job in salvage drives. f'TAdllhhl A new responsibility, taken on this year at the suggestion o the l.- . . an tie ug sc oo principal, was the promotion of attendance at night meetings of the P.AT.A. resulting in the largest crowds the history of the organization has ltnown. Numerous other services have been rendered by the Council from time to time, both in co operation with the administration and independently. .,.
