Choas is, as the World Book Dictionary states: “utter disorder; disorder at the utmost plane: etc.” At the beginning of the year we were given the responsility of describing the entire year with a simple word or phrase We did this with open minds and hearts - with the thought that our purpose of choice would be understood. When we first entered school at the beginning of the year, we were greeted with torn-up entrance steps, construction, etc. We were also told of news of a brand new plan for the school system which would drastically change our school from the Northeast High School we know and love to a magnet school. New teachers, an unorganized magnet school proposal, construction, a cancelled Varsity Football team, homecoming game and parade has led us to see nothing but chaos, - utter disorder. Thus, are theme in the beginning of a book. As the year progressed we began to originality, creativity and order out of all the disorder. The book began to take on the shape of a puzzle with many scattered pieces. As the book progressed page by page, each piece came together to form a single picture of Northeast. We end this introduction with a simple phrase written by Henry (Brooks) Adams, an American historian, which best sums up our theme and it's purpose. “Chaos often breeds life, when order often breeds habit.” ■ Ashley, Larry Atty, Bryant Atty. Nov. 8th, 1986 marked the 1st school dance of the year. Though morale was dampened by the cancellation of the football game, more than 125 people jammed to this year's theme; “Earth Angel . 1986 — 87 King Queen The dance of the royal court. There was a fantastic discjockey by the name of Fred Morelle, who had previously taught at Northeast. A wide variety of people were having a great time on the dance floor-jumping, snapping, clapping among other things. When many of the people finally decided to rest they found that it was no easy task. For every time they sat down, someone Wow! I can’t move would boost them right back up. Despite these difficulties the dance was enjoyed by many. After all, Northeast students and dancing are a “Perfect Combination”. Don’t these people know how to dance! Whatever he told her, it sure 70 did bring a smile. It’s obvious these guys have found interest in something else PERFECT COMBINATION 71 MOCK WEDDINGS Mr. Kelly and Lisa Shore portray the parents of the groom during the sixth hour weddings. You may think that graduation is so far away, but in reality it is just one small step away in the walk of life. As Seniors we have the ability to give you some advice. Treasure every moment of high school, because it will soon be gone. Don't waste time remembering the bad things that have happened, they're not worth thinking about. Concentrate on all the good times and good friends you have. Do your schoolwork, eat right, stay out of trouble, mind your parents and be in bed by nine o'clock on school nights, because all children need their sleep. Oh, and have fun. — Goodluck — !! Samantha Wrote, Christlon Young, Sherry Yslas, Steve It is hard for us seniors to remember how it really felt to be a Sophomore so we decided to ask a couple of them. We asked Richard Segovia how it feels and he said: “It's great to be a Sophomore. Sophomores have no real responsibilities, and we don't have to worry about the future as much as the Juniors and Seniors. I'm really glad I'm no longer a Freshman, though-Being a freshman can really hurt a person's self confidence because people are always putting you down. Being a Sophomore gives me a sense of Power because now I can pick on the reshman! As great as it is to be a Sophomore, I can't wait to be a Senior.” We, as Seniors, tend to believe that statement. We also asked Sherry Harris how it felt to be a Sophomore and she said: “I feel privileged to be a Sophomore. There are a lot of great people in the Class of 1969.” We asked her how she felt about graduating and she said. “I'm scared to death. I don't want to be seperated from all of my friends. I feel secure right now, being a Sophomore, I don't want to think about graduation- at least not now. As much as I like the security of my Sophomore status, I can not wait until I can say that I'm a Senior.” Being a Sophomore is fine but don't forget that time moves on and before you know it you are a Senior and your life is about to start—ready or not! 96 Scrimmage Players Lee SoeuthJosue BlasBunthoeun Engsitha Khleang 98 1986 -87 INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE VOLLEYBALL (END -OF-THE-SEASON REPORT) DATE OPPONENT SCORE SCORE 9-10 East 13-15 16-14 I rn 9-17 Westport 15-2 15-4 1 1 9-23 Southwest 15-3 15-4 11 ■ 9-25 Van Horn 15-6 15-131 fj ll 10-1 Souheast 15-7 15-7 M I 10-14 Paseo 15-3 15-8 B | 10-16 Central 15-4 15-4 B IJ 10-20 Lincoln 15-10 15-11 IT m SCORE WON lost £ ■ 16-14 2 1 Vs V N A 2 o I N A 2 o Rofpr tn nanp 101 Left to right: Coach Waunita Small, Terri Hardaway, Cynthia Sitton, Lisa Mason, Aretha McAdoo, Gina Nelson. This year's team sailed through the Interscholastic League Tournament and conference play undefeated meeting enemy challenge. Three members of this 1986 viking team were selected to the I.L. first team All Star squad and a willingness to work, the 1986 Viking Volley bailers cruised to a 14 match Victory streak. Their confident play and sportsmanlike behavior helped me to my third I.L. Coach of the Year Award. The 1986 Viking dominated the league because of their character and determination. The Viking explosive offense was led by Senior spiker Nicole Avis, a two-time I.L. first team All Star, team “Most Valuable Player, and season high scorer. Senior spiker Cynthia DeShazer, also a first team I.L. All Star, sparked the offense with her spirited play. The versatile team captain, senior Pam Pennington, was a stabilizing influence and she set and spiked her way to first team I.L. All Star status. The Viking defense was anchored by senior Dena DeShazer, a second team I.L. all Star whose jamming at the net kept the team in close matches. Junior setter Tina Stringfield's deadly serve was the marginfor victory in many early matches, the most pleasant surprise of the season was the play of Freshman blocker Lisa Moreale who earned a starting position and was selected team Most improved Player.” Top varsity reserves Susan Shortino and Cindy Sitton each contributed to victory during the season. Rounding out our team were Junior Gina Nelson and Sophomore Arethe McAdoo both of whom will be counted on next year to continue our proud Northeast Volleyball tradition. I enjoyed this team because they had character and desire. They did all I asked of them without questions. I've coached most of these girls since they were Freshmen and we had faith and trust in each other. It was a thrill to present white letters to Pam, Cynthia Dena. They are super athletes and fine young ladies. I wish them all the success that life has to offer. When disciplined and talented athletes work together for the good of the team success usually follows. Finally I would like to express a warm special thanks to Jr. Varsity Coach Waunita Small and Assistant Coach Cameron Eikenbary. It was rewarding and fun to work with manager Tom Paulson. Without help from our scrimmage players Sitha Khleng, Lee South, Bunthoeun Eng several others Northeast Vikings men our season may not have been as successful. We were always happy to see our 1 Fan, Mrs. Don Carlos. Dan Buckley and Geno Gonzales contributed time and help to our squad. We really appreciated the support from all our fans, and we're looking forward to next season. SfflsUL (ft - O 100 Special Awards arsuy • Season High Point Varsity - Nicolle Avis 110 pts. The majority of students believe the word faculty means a group of teachers who want to teach them something that they will never use again in life (after the test on Friday!) We are concerned that as we grow older, Education and all those things we thought we would never use again will be as important to us as they will. Just a thank you for everything you taught us. SECRETARIES: It is you that makes the school go round. You keep the bells ringing on time. You keep our records up to date, and you can always find us, if we are in class. We come to you for an absence excuse. We come to you to call home for us, you even call home when we are not here. You do a lot for us and we want to Thank You. The worst thing a teacher could say is “Go see your Vice Principal. It is a scary feeling because they always seem to have a suspension with your name on it. The only thing that could top this would be, being sent to the PRINCIPAL'S office. What we do not realize is that their job is not really to discipline. I am sure they would much rather be doing other things. They do much more than keep the students in line. They have to try and keep everyone happy. They are to make sure that everything is being taught and everyone is learning what they are supposed to. So just maybe the next trip you take to your principal’s office will be for a good reason. My sincerest congratulations to the class of 1987. My wish is that you experience good health and satisfying life for an infinite number of years. Stephen Brown, Jr. Principal The staff and I hope that the experiences which were available to you here at Norhteast have provided you with a “running start. To the Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen, you arewitnessing and will be a part of a radical change in what has been Northeast Senior High, a four year comprehensive neighborhood type school. When our doors open for the 1987-88 school year, we will open as the Northeast Law and Public Service Magnet High School. There should be by that time a variety of physical changes to include a mock-courtroom, a fire safety room, and a law library. There should be extensive computer equipment, our business education department should be completely equipped with the latest equipment. Many other parts of the building will be renovated. Each of you will have an opportunity to get early experiences through classwork and through field experiences in such areas aas law enforcement, pre-law training, firefighting and many other related fields. The future looks bright for exciting new classes and new types of How’s this ? educational experiences. I hope to see you here. 122 Do you know where my keys are???? To the teachers, Mr. Brown and Mr. Cambell one day you'll understand the Superior People like Andrew and myself, so to you I leave a portarait of me! To the class of “88’’ good luck; you'll need it! I, Angela Roberts, would like to leave Leonard Brown my Itnch card and table manners, to the class of '88, the ability to graduate and succeed in the future, and I would like to leave Carmala Bossell my fingernails. I .Candy Claudel being in good sound mind and body, leave my happiness to everyone! My bibbies” to Mr. Day. My Grades to all who my need them to graduate. My senior dues to all the future Seniors. Most of all, I'd like to thank all my teachers of my junior and senior year for being there for me. I wish the best of luck in the future. Reach for the stars. I'll miss you. I, Tuyet Nguyen, leave my craziness to my cousin Yen Nguyen so she could cheer-up her classmates whenever they are down, and to the Young Vietnamese Connection, I leave my friendliness. I, Edith Dunbar, leave my brain to Aileen Dunbar, because without it ,1 don't think she will make it to her Senior year. I, Nicolle Avis, being of sound mind and body, leave my dynamic volleyball abilities to Lisa Moreale, and to Aretha McAdoo, my great shot-put techniques. I hope you gals use them well. I, Serena Ealy, leave to Katrina McAdoo, my lock, and to my cousin Shawn Thomas, my ability to think as a Senior. I, Melaine Bell, leave my brains, good phsical condition, cleanliness, ability to dress, ability to fight, and my ability to keep my mouth shut to Karla Settles. I, Janet Dishman, being of sound mind and body, leave my good attendance, intelligence, and cheerfulness to my younger sister Sherry. In the event of graduation with the best class of (87), I Debbie Valla will the following: To Lisa Shore, I leave my (undeserved) title of dingiest , and the responsibility of keeping 'the legend” Craig M. alive, to Ralph Kellogg I leave the wish that his life turns out the way it should, to Tonya Short.l leave my hair, let’s try to keep it one color. Finally to Louis Morealle, I leave luck, you’ll need it with that sister of yours. I, Michelle Hensley, leave Ryun Middelton, all the luck in the world; Richard Segovia a raincheck; to Mike DeBrevi the key ; to Paula Norman, Tiffany Garcia, and Lisa Bassett my eternal friendship and best advice. I leave to Sherry Harris a gag” for Michael Garcia's mouth and all my secrets. To Reggie Wilmore, I leave the excellent tast his brother has. To the 1986-87 Pom Pom squad I leave the ability to criticize themselves more than anyone else. Finally, to all the underclassmen guys I’ve ever flirted with a wink and a hug and may your fantasies of me come true. 168 I, Sandy Corder, have given thought to the amount of generosity in which I partake for my Senior will. Then a thought became clear, what I will give is not genererosity, but rather of gratitude. It is as though I am giving something to my beneficiants, but merely returning a gift for what they have gave me. With that I will begin: To Mr. Spillman, I wish to leave my infinite gratitude and respect for being individual, and teaching the qualities of uniqueness, I also leave to you the part of me which reminds you of Queen Nefertiti, in which you may choose to decorate with chains of platinum. To Mr. Day, I leave a million Good Mornings , and a note of thanks for teaching the value and importance of history, as well as the awareness of current events. To Coach Chuck Sanger, I leave the hopes of your finding someone like myself, who will blush as many times as I did for you. To Pierre DeBrevi, I leave my encourgement to stay as intellectual as you are. I hope that you always will remember me and that you will always love the classics. And to all who care to read this, a message: Though graduating may seem a fantastic end, in reality it is a mere beginning. I, Tony Mike Brocato, being of a sound mind and body would like to leave my long neck and glowing smile to Mr. James Campbell. I would also like to leave Ralph Kellogg the ability to handle fifty projects at one time without losing his mind. To Mrs. Sandgren, I would like to leave a thanks for everything, and a congradulations on a wonderful retirement to come, and finally I would like to leave to my cousin Mike Brogoto, my success and good fortune as a student and the ability to keep out of trouble. To the class of '88. ‘89, and '90, Good luck, you’ll need it, especially the class of '88. I, Tina Alvarez, being in sound mind and mouth leave to Missy Jones the ability to try to be as loud in the halls as I am. I, Geno Gonzales, leave Northeast to all future students i eave to Angela Windham, all rriv love, and I hope that no one has to stay here as long as I did. I, Vicki Davis, leave my brother Victor Davis my seriousness about school work; to Vicki Rowe, I leave my singing ability (pick up where I left off), and to Karla Settles, I leave my cuteness and cleanliness. I, Stacy Boley, leave to Clay Flemmons, and Tyrone Collins, my ability to go to school and stay in class. To Eric Hill, I leave my ability to walk straight instead of strut. To all three, my everlasting friendship. To Carl Newton, all my love. To the 1986-87 Pom Pon Squad, the ability to accept Michelle's criticism with grace! I, Santa Marie Childs, leave my friend Tammy Ferguson, all of Mr Kelly's Philosophies, the freedom of speech, and my tremendous friendship with Mr. Brown, and of course, Herman. I, Beverly Brimmage, being of sound mind and plump body, do hereby leave to Andy Tucker, one pair of moon pumps, to Barbara Murphy, I leave my ability to endure, and to both of you, I leave my utmost respect for maintain ing their individualality and creativity in dealing with closed minds . To Joni Fagan, I leave my undying friendship and love. To Mr. Kelly, the teacher who I owe a lot of my education to, I leave my confused state of mind in dealing with Educated Rocks(?) . Since I have no estate, my possessions should be divided up between family members and charities. I, Carla Truschinger, leave Rapl Kellogg my leadership to be the Sr. Class President, to Michelle Sapenaro, I leave my diploma (and hope) for her to graduate with the class of '88. To Loretta Baskett, Anegla Sapenaro, Christine Monaco my happiest years at Northeast, and to the classes of ’88, ’89, '90, I leave my school spirit that didn't show my YTRLmn RESTTmiyiHT 511 Cherry Street Kansas City.
