J, -v,-w udv v edicated to Cathy Arm Jones D On April 18, 1986, Cathy Arm Jones, a senior, went into the hospital for a octors thought was a heart murmur. Some 5 never able to return back to school. The senior class thought that this book should be dedicated to a very brave and strong girl. If anyone knew Cathy, they knew that she was always happy, cheerful and a carefree person! At the age of 17 Cathy had a very rare heart cancer. It hit everyone very hard and unexpectedly. On May 28, Cathy would have said her last good-bye to Northeast, but instead itls f simple operation due to what the d complications occurred and she wa Northeast that says goodbye to Cathy. No one will forget what a special : person she was, especially her family and close friends. We love youCath and you will always have a place in our hearts!! 14 , x image. mum IHHIH IHIHH nimn i-z Richard Alleman l1969-1986l Richard Alleman was a terrific guy: He died Friday, Pm still asking myself why, He was a very sweet person to all of us; He was someone we knew, loved, and trusted. He was always there when you needed him; He was better than any kind of precious gem. He could get along with anyone; He was the kind of person who was alot of fun. Richard wouldnlt let anything get him down; He was so much fun to be around, There were many people who Richard cared about; He was a very special person to many, there is no doubt. Why so some people only notice a person when he or she dies? They hardly ever say a word to the person when he or she is alive. Richardis death has touched us in a painful way; I personally will be mourning for many days. Richard was involved in many activities at school; He was in the Student Response Team with me and I thought he was very cool. Ilts just not fair to anyone; Especially his parents because he was their youngest son. I can only remember Richard with a smile on his face; and him playing around and getting on everyoneis case. Richard was a very intelligent uy; He was a person who would a ways try. I Erayed for Richard of the class of iI87? T at he will be waitin for the rest of us in heaven. Richard came from a ig family who loved him very much; Everyone at school loved him a whole bunch. by Edith Dunbar R Aamold, Tammy Alexander, Shannon Allman, Mildred Alverado, Mike Alvarez, Jonna Anderson, Vondale Askew, Wayne uoh, no, late for class again? We walked the halls and disturbed the classes, and often bugged the teachers for passes. We listened to gossip and contributed our share of spreading the word, and without delay it was often heard. We ditched and we ditched and we thought we were slick, but now that were Seniors it just doesntt mix. Friends were here and friends were there but when you needed them where... Oh where??? The year began with a devoted band, drill team and flag girls working at Worlds of Fun to help raise money for new shoes, boots, hats flags, etc., and did their hard work pay off? According to Mr. May, this year was the first time all marching units were in uniform all together from bottom to top. The N.E. Band is one of the most active bands in the interscholastic league. Mr. May and students take great pride in their accomplishment. For the first time, under the direction of Mr. May, the band went to district contest in Liberty, Missouri. The Marching Purple Pride is truly a credit to our school and community. Tri Toms Jonathon Strother, Darren Knox, Corey McDonald A .. .1, Flutes Sith Eng, Dana Busrmetta E - as w . h , I t , . . This organization was established, in the spring of 1985, when Joe Rodriguez from the Department of Justice did the initial training. The purposes of the SRT is to try and come to some agreement between two conflicting parties. The second purpose of the SRT is to try and work on school problems. The SRT also serves as an advisory committee to the administration. The 1985-86 Student Response Team hopes that it will continue to be successful in the years to come. This year all activities were well noticed. All dances were attended by several dozen and the Homecoming parade was the biggest in a long time. The teachers played basketball and what ' a game that was..... Each student did a great job in participating in each activity that took place. The school year 1985-86 has been a mem- orable year. u Hey Buck-wheaf, Your S-i-c-c-k-k 124 Spirit week was so fun and exciting for the students this year. A lot of the students participated and were all worked up for Homecoming which took place that week- end. Spirit week brings out happiness in everyone and it also shows the students creativeness. Although we,ve yet to see our school as the most-spirited, we do come up with our purple and white pride. This year we held Bum day, Baby day, Music day, Beach clay, and Class day. Our morale for this tradition is to show our school spirit, to act a fool, and to break the dress code for a week!! Ainit I Cute? The Homecoming assembly consisted of candidates for the Thls year's Homecoming W dance and the football team. The assembly went V99 SuCCeSs. Much effort was put into this dance sponsored by Student Council members. We all had a great time. Much effort and hard work talong with valuable timei...was spent in rehersals. This years theme was Slave to the Rythm, which opened the show with a rhapsody of slaves worshipping their master in a dungey- smokey atmosphere. The students who participated gave their best talents to entertain the student body, faculty, and parents. The participants gave a special thanks to Theresa Gilyard tsponsori, Lynne Newton tstudent directori, and Gary Thomas tchoreographeri. It was a learning experience for some and a challenge for others in hope to motivate spectators of our ethnical background activities. We hope to see the tradition of Viking Varieties in years to come. ASSEMBLIES 1985-86 ASSEMBLIES The assemblies consisted of every event that has taken place this year. The students that com- mentated each assembly did a wonderful job and the students participated well in giving their attention. Some assemblies were well remembered because of the guest speakers that spoke. For instance, one assembly the student response team and the student council had Ed Rudine come and talk to the students about smoking. Ed Rudine, by the way, lost his voice due to smoking. The students were great in being silent for him to speak with his device that he uses. Then for Ethnic Awareness Day, Sandra McFadden Winfield spoke to the students about everyone working together no matter what race he or she is. The rest of the assemblies were the traditional pep, sport, and honor roll assemblies. During the first week of practice - The season didnlt look very encouraging, however, as the runners got into condition things began to change. Jerome Gusman and Valerie Gusman teamed up to be the most valuable runners in the interscholastic league. This was the 2nd year for Valerie to receive this honor. She has one more year and will be shooting for 3 in a row. Jerome a senior, was selected as an all-metro all star for his second straight year by the Kansas City Star. Jerome finished 6th in the state cross country finals in Jefferson City, MissOuri. Sophmore Ronnie Bolanos finished 16th in the state championships.
