THE NOR'EASTER STAFF DEDICATES THIS BOOK TO YOU!!! Maybe you have just finished your high school years or maybe you are just starting them, but basically we all go through the same things. We all have our ups and downs throughout high school, but when we look back it will seem like a carefree time compared to what the future holds. The Seniors, who have just finished high school, have a whole new life ahead of them. The memories of Northeast are all they have to take with them. Hopefully, these memories will last a lifetime. The freshman, who are just starting high school, have a lot of good times ahead of them here at Northeast. We hope that they will enjoy them as much as we have enjoyed our four years here at Northeast. As you go through this book we hope it reminds you of yourself going through the years . NORTHEAST SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 415 South Van Brunt Kansas City, Missouri Principal-Stephen Brown, Jr. Hi I'm Nor'man and I'm going to be your guide through the pages of this book. The Nor'easter Staff asked me to do this. And since they're such good friends of mine I'd like to introduce you to them. First of all there's the co-editors or the Janet's (as they are sometimes called), Janet Miller and Janet Chandler. They are also responsible along with Charla Taibi, for the Senior section. Charla is the business manager too. Now the Junior section was done by Johanna Hohensinner and Chris Garcia. And Rachelle Middleton and Regina Santellan worked on Sophomores. To finish up the classes, Pam Beam and Denise Wheeler had the job of putting together the Freshmen section. The Faculty and administration section was the responsibility of Pat Green and David Boley. Lucy Cline, Francis Bishop, and Renee Middleton were the ones who made the Activities section work. Clubs and Organizations was worked on by Tammy Cox, Stefanie Williams and Jenny Zito. And Tammy worked on Sports too, along with Bobby Cohens and Ginger Wilson. Lastly, but certainly not leastly, is our chief photographer David Canzonere. Everybody did a really great job! So now let's get this show on the road. 3 Table of Contents Activities..................122 Clubs 100 Sports 142 Index Ads 173 1983 -1983- End of 1st. Remember the first day of school as a Freshman? You didn't quite know what to expect. The school was big, confusing and the upperclassmen sure didn't seem to help. You did really stupid things like scream, yell and giggle that really brought out your age. You did all kinds of things to impress the upperclassmen and now your beginning to realize how childish you really were But your Freshman year is important, its building a base to the future. This report highlighted many areas which are considered to be deficient However, in spite of a very clear shortage of supportive personnel and the unavailability of some very significant resources, I feel our staff has done an outstanding job We are producing many outstanding students who we feel are competitive and will move on to become highly productive citizens. We have made great strides and have done a highly effective job of serving all students regardless of their ability level or their prior achievement level I have been particularly proud of our staff's commitment to you, which is one based upon a desire to challenge you to the limits of your abilities On behalf of the staff, I wish you success through the years, and urge you to continue the process of education. This years girls and boys teams worked very hard and long to become very competative. The girls team lead by Senior, Elizabeth Johnston did well despite the lack of girls on the team. The boys team lead by Junior, Pete Gusman had a very strong squad. Four of the Varsity boys finished in the top ten at the I.L. League Meet Championships. The Varsity boys team also qualified for regional competition and were able to qualify Pete gusman for the State Championships, that was held in Jefferson City, Mo. Pete finished in 24th place. Head Coach Steve Scroggins For the first time in the history of Northeast Sr. High School, a long needed spring sport has arrived at the school. Baseball! That's right Baseball! Coach Steve Scroggins former founder and coach of the Central High School Baseball team, presented the idea to the young men and the administrative staff, whom thought the idea could work. But, money became the major issue and it was solved with great fund raising ideas and funds from the community and other sources! Now we’re rolling and our season could be a bright one, because we have a great group of guys with good attitudes We seem solid with such players as Seniors, Chris Cornelison, Tyrone Smith, and Paul Sharp. With the Super Seniors, we have a solid group of Juniors and Sophmores whom will help carry the load. As coach, I want to thank everyone for the strong support. You can give your seniors a good start into the future by steering them to ihe Army National Guard. The Guard offers, in addition to long-term benefits, six immediate values: a paycheck every month; tuition assistance; training in leadership and technical skills which can contribute to civilian careers; part-time service compatible with other job or school requirements; a close-to-home location; and the satisfaction of being on guard to help in any local or national emergency.
