I think alot of you readers are going to be dis- appointed, because for once in my life I’ve decided to “get down on some serious sentiments instead of my usual ludicrous lines. Many people might still laugh, but I feel the need to say something to help people understand a very special individual- the football player. So read on and get a good laugh, then sit back and think for a minute. I hope then maybe you’ll understand. The football player might appear to be big-headed, stuck-up, and conceited. But is he really? A football player is someone that is in love with something he takes pride in: his game. He is a person, who over a period of four years, developes a great sense of dignity in what he does. He goes out and gets his head knocked around for months only to prove himself on Friday nights in just 48 minutes. A true football player never ceases to improve, because he is always working either physically or mentally to become a great athlete. He might offend people not be- cause he means to, but, because he has a goal engraved in his whole being and he is always striving to reach this goal. A gridiron enthusiast may appear to his fellow students and teachers to be only after personal glory, but this is definitely not true. He isn’t out practicing three hours every day in the rain, the cold, and the blistering heat for himself, he is out there to give all he’s got to build a reputation for his team, his school, and his family. A pigskin player is not a individual, but an intricate essential part of an integrated, proud machine. His acts are not for himself, but rather for the continuing success of the team. Win- ning and losing become a way of life, a factor which regulates his whole emotional make-up. But now the season is over, so where does the football player go from here? He’ll soon fit back into the mainstream of social activity and become just like he always was, but what about the burning desires he had, what happens to it? Nobody knows the answer to this but the individual himself. No matter where his ambitions take him now, he will always have the memories from those four great years he so willingly gave to this, his great game of football. How does the football player feel when the last minute ticked off the clock in his last game of his senior year? Think back to the time in your life when your favorite dog, that you cared for so lovingly for four years, finally died. Did a lump develope in your throat, and did tears fill your eyes? When that dog died, a small part of you died with it, and that’s exactly what happens to a football player, especially in high school, because he plays with the same play- ers, is coached by the same coaches, and is cheered by the same fans, and now this is over. Maybe you could call this love, but then a big strong football player would never be associated with a word like love! So when you see a football player, especially a Senior, put yourself in their shoes. Just imagine what it’s like to have four of the greatest years of your life whizz by in a blink of an eye. Then maybe you will understand why 1 can say that football play- ers are a helluva bunch of human beings! 57 Terri Segovia Anna Hernandez Edie Wingfield Frances Valadez Marla EikenberTy Sharon McGuire Vivian Ferguson and Brenda Lipsey were 2 out of 4 girls nominated as most valuable players of the Interscholastic League, and Brenda was also on the 2nd team All-stars in the the League. Drama Club is an organization designed to develop the interest of stu- dents in the field of dramatics, and theatre of techniques. It’s pur- pose, however, is not only to accomodate students interest but also to contribute traditional and entertaining functions to the school. Drama Clubs' main function is the production of the annual Viking Varieties, but activities do not cease here. Stage workshops develop and build sets for Trilogy and play productions. Also a wide range of outside field activities make up the yearly agenda. Getting involved, contributing to school functions, and having fun are our main objectives and the doors are always open to anyone who would like to be part of this organization. We are grateful to each student who cooperated and worked to make this indeed a school year that the school and com- munity can be proud of. It’s hard to express how much one person can give oneself to something they believe in. I feel Northeast is a good example. For we the class 1978 have been through many changes this year and 1 feel taken them in stride. I know the memories will linger on in our hearts for even though they were not always good, they were apart of our lives which will carry our dreams and hopes further, maybe the memories will teach us not to make the same mistakes. Also to improve our ability to grow and let go as life goes on and takes it’s course. So to the class of 1978 I wish you good luck and bid you farwell, for if you keep your character as good as the traditional North- east character, life should not be but a small stepping stone to cross. 188 AUTOGRAPHS “The Death Wish” I hope I die before too long, No one will miss me after very long. I can’t wait to get away from here, I’ll take my soul and go some other where. How can you stand it living on this earth? Lonely people cry out hating this earth. I know it’s odd to wish to die, But if I don’t want to live why should I? I’d like to see who my true friends are Who’ll grieve at my funeral with emotional scars. Bye Nancy Carter 2 15 77 Nancy was bom 4 19 60 she attended Northeast Senior High until her ju- nior year. She died in a car accident on 7 13 77.
