FACULTY AH the knowledge, skill, art and science that we use and revere, up to Einstein’s formulas linking matter and energy, are merely the repetition and extension of a basic principle. This extention, however, does not take place by itself, but must be preceded by slow and painful teaching; just as the ability to run must always follow tedious lessons on how to walk. There was once a time, no doubt, when even Mr. Einstein wasn’t quite sure of the product of eight times nine. No man can say of another: “I educated him;” but it is a proud thing to say: “I taught him.” Education must come from within, yet it is often the result of the teaching he has had. Experts in their special fields, teachers provide a reservoir of knowledge from which interested students may draw in order that they might be- come experts, too. The Dramatics instructors, for example, are busy training the young men and women who will be tomorrow’s celebrated producers, di- rectors, and performers.
