The first day of school means many things-the end of vacation, the beginning of studies, meeting old friends, making new friends, new courses. new teachers-all a bit confusing, but nothing so confusing as the first few days at the North- east Book Store. The School Year of 1951-52 The regrets we felt when the summer vacation ended were offset by the thought of the stimulating school year to follow . . . XVe shall long remember the baffling confusion at the book- store during that hectic first week of school, but we soon settled down to work and entered into various school activities . . . Lunch time each day provided a break for nourishment, small talk, and relaxation . . . The unexpected fire drills afforded some fresh air and exercise, but we realized that the safety of the students was the more important reason for holding these drills regularly . . . Friday night festivities included meeting the gang at Viking Village to gossip over a refreshing coke, dance, or play .1 fast game of Ping-pong . . . Combined efforts were needed to produce the wide variety of excellent assemblies we had through- out the year . . . The Courier headlines announced our victorious gains on the athletic fields, kept us posted on society and club affairs, and informed us of coming events . . . Iiveryone worked hard to make Open House a big success . . . On College Day representatives from colleges and universities talked with pros- pective students about requirements for college entrance . . . The Christmas Vespers and the Spring Concert marked the end- ing ef one season and the beginning of another . . . Lit Contest, fired by keen competition, proved to be one of the most stirring events of the year . . . The dances held during the year were the Snowball, the Sweetheart, the R. O. T. C. Ball, the Inter- society, and the junior-Senior Prom . . . Final exams are a com- mon woe for everyone, but we hope to recover in time to attend graduation exercises.
