The Juniors were well repre- sented at the 1969 Homecoming, the Spring Thing, and their bake sales. The Christmas Dance sponsored by the Junior Class was a big success for all who came. Romance in Venice, the theme of the Junior Prom, marked the finale of the year. The officers for this year were David Monks, Presi- dent; Cindy Nicholson, Vice-President; Kathy Zim- merman, Secretary; and Diane Volz, Treasurer. The Junior Class Advisors were Miss Lookabill and Mr. Grimm. Now at the end of a prosperous year β not looking backwards, but forwards β the Juniors see a great Senior year before them. Romance In Venice The 1970 Junior Prom was a great success. Decorating frantically. Juniors transformed the gym into the city of Venice, complete with fountains and streams. Students danced to the sound of Bob Brady and the Concords which most agreed were very good. Hard work and a great setting led to a good prom. Do you like to dance? We do! Juniors dance to the fabulous sound of Bob Brady and the Concords. Debbie Bolton represents the Sophomore class for her second time. Also representing the Sophomore class in the 69 Homecoming court is Pam Jordan. Sophomore Class Due to the election in November the Sophomore class got off to a late start. In January the class sponsored a bake sale which was fairly successful. The class play, Capricious Pearls, was a big hit when it was presented during the annual One Act Play night. A Sophomore received the award for best supporting actress. On March 7, the class held their biggest money making project, the Sadie Hawkins Dance. At this dance, it gave the girls a chance to get the boys. A marriage booth was provided for those girls who found a boy. The Class of 72's last project for the year was their participation at the Spring Thing. The class provided refreshments with the sale of cokes. Sprite, and orange drinks. The Sophomore class proved to be a successful and active part of Northeast High. Mr. George (adv.) Carl bosserman (pres.) Mary Whaley (vice pres.) Freshman Class This is the first year that Northeast has had an entire ninth grade class in the school. The money-making activities in- cluded bake-sales and the Spring Thing Booth. The booth, which consisted of up- setting a bucket of water on a favorite teacher, was a great success. Although limited in many ways, the freshmen made themselves present at nu- merous Northeast activities including sports events and dances. We know that we can expect to find a strong Sophomore Class next year. SCHOOL LIFE Lab Aids During the first half of the year, various students helped with the odds and ends that creep up while conduct- ing experiments. It became the desire of the majority of these students to form a close knit group with a com- mon goal β the improvement of sci- ence teaching. The Lab Aids Club was founded and has proven itself invalu- able to some of the biology teachers because of the able existence of its members. Small range personal experiments have been started by some of the members and plans have been made for next year. During some of the in- formal meetings, the members were able to extend their biological knowl- edge, and some seem to be drawn to careers in one of the biological fields. Mr. Miller (Adv.), T. The Math Club (Mu Alpha Theta), co- sponsored by The Mathematical Association of America, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, is intended to stimulate interest in mathematics by providing public recognition of superior mathematical scholarship and promoting mathematical activities. Senior High School students who are enrolled in the fifth semester of college preparatory mathemat- ics are eligible for full membership providing they have at least a B average in their general high school work. 90 Organizations Newly Formed Organizations Afro-American Club This club is designed to help give stu- dents a clear understanding of the Afro- American. It functions primarily as an honor guard for our national and state colors and performs in drill competition representing North- east High School as well as give its service to the school and community. The team, after a late start, has since February, for two or three nights a week, drilled with Mr. Apuzzio. A successful dance this year enabled the team to purchase training drill rifles. Uniforms, an active part in competition, and a service to the school, are sights in the future. The dedicated young men are preparing for what will be a great year for the team in 1970-71. Organizations 91 Student Council Makes Progress Robin Maisel Vice-President Northeast on-the-job training is really different! Organizations 92 The Student Council has been very active this year in all of its activities. Homecoming, the dress code, and the Spring Thing were among the successful proj- ects the Student Council undertook. The dress code was revised to suit the students, and Homecoming and the Spring Thing brought in a lot of money with which to work. With this money, the Student Council is purchasing a gift for the school. After much debate, they decided to buy two sets of portable bleachers to accommodate the large crowds at all home football, soccer, and baseball games. The Student Council officers would like to thank all those persons who gave their time and attention to making this year's Student Council the success that it was this year. Becky Popplein, next year's Student Council President. Organizations 93 National Honor Society To gain membership in the National Honor Society, one is elected by a com- mittee on the basis of scholarship, leader- ship, and character. Members must maintain a B average to remain in the club. The club had a dance in January to raise funds. FRONT ROW: 5. Geisler, G. Honaker. SECOND ROW: B. Geisler, V. Tate, E. Sullins THIRD ROW: J. Under the leadership of Miss Flickner, the club had a French Christ- mas play, a mardi gras, a lunch table where only French was spoken, and a booth at the Spring Thing. Robin Downey led the Pep Club through a successful year. To raise money, their club sold buttons, license plates, shakers, and scarfs. They participated in Homecoming with a float and by marching. They sponsored booster buses to foot- ball and basketball games, which were a great success. Finally, they took Easter baskets to Angel's Haven. Summer Arthur Long. Having a baby at the age of 40, with a husband of 50 years is quite an event. The incident arises when Edith Lambert, a settled housewife, discovers she is expecting. All is much of a surprise to her young married daughter, Kate; her son-in-law, Charlie; and especially Mr. Lam- bert. The setting takes place in a small town and quite a predicament develops. Charlie Lambert's business world is not prepared for the situation of Edith. His daughter is rather taken, as her mother is expecting and she is not. As for the son-in-law, it is skeptical to say whether he cares or not. CAST Edith Lambert . . . Harry Lambert . . Kate .............. Charlie ........... Grace ............. Neighbor ..........
