It is the fulfillment of a long cherished dream, a goal sought and reached. As you prepare now to extend your horizons and strive tor goals more lofty, we extend to you our sincere thanks for the honorable way in which you have conducted yourselves at Northeast High. We are proud of the class of ' 62 and know that your high ideals and your zeal in striving always for the best will make our troubled world a better place in which to live. To those of you who are going on to higher education, we sincerely hope that your years spent in our schools have properly prepared you, both in knowl¬ edge and in attitude, for the tasks that lie ahead. We are equally desirous that those of you wno are going directly into your chosen vocation, whatever it may be, find that our schools have properly educated your minds and your hearts to enable you to reap the fullest measure of benefit and happiness for yourselves and your fellow men. Supervising Principal Mansfield State College Pennsylvania State University Bucknell University TO THE CLASS OF 1962 In the foreword to the Rockefeller Committee ' s report entitled The Pursuit of Excellence; Education and the Future of America, there appears this state¬ ment: There is no more searching or difficult problem for a free people than to identify, nurture, and wisely use its own talents. Indeed on its ability to solve this problem rests, at least in part, its fate as a free people. For a free society cannot commandeer talent, it must be true to its own visions of indi¬ vidual liberty. By the same token each individual bears a moral responsibility to so develop his own talents, skills, and abilities that he may strengthen not only his own development but also the development of a free society. America has become the symbol for freedom-seeking people everywhere. It is only through the strength which you will add to her efforts that mankind will achieve lasting peace and happiness. May all of you achieve happiness and success through the years to come.
