The team lacked the depth and numbers for a strong record, finishing 5-7, but the season was filled with many fine performances. The highlight of the season was Greg Wentzel's first place finish in the unseeded varsity race at the annual Knights of Columbus Invitational Meet. Kim Burtis fifteenth place at the Western Mass. Meet earned her a place at States, and Bill Grinnell got himself in the all-time top ten Hamp cross country runners again this season. The team will have to rebuild with seniors Margo Welch, Greg Wentzel, Bill Grinnell, and Virginia Shea leaving. arsity Field Hockey l l i I v Row 1: Kim Wright, Ann O'Brien, Jennifer Aquadro, Elizabeth Ryan, Pam Field, Heidi Conz Row 2: Coach Barbara Coopee, Kathy Newman, Ann Valentine, Mary Kocot, Donna Booth, Tracy Bouchard, Mary Mansfield, Tanya Dickinson, Debi Patten, Manager Mary LoBello Missing: Cathy McPhee The Northampton Girls, Varsity Field Hockey team led by seniors, Jennifer Aquadro, Donna Booth, Kathy McPhee, Tanya Dickinson, Pam Field, Mary Kocot and Gigi Ryan, ended the season with a 9-6-2 record good enough for third in the Valley League but missing the Western Mass. Tournament by just one game.
