JJz. i ji: «V ' . ♦ - I ' t. ' ■■■;. 1 DEDICATION This issue of the Light¬ house is solemly dedicated to the memory of two of our class¬ mates, Horace Williams and George Garrison. We deeply regret that Horace and George are unable to grad¬ uate with us because of an auto¬ mobile accident which took their lives. In memory of them, we the members of the senior class of 1965 dedicate this annual. George Garrison and Horace Williams PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE GREETINGS TO THE SENIORS OF 1965 It is always an honor as well a source of great pride to commend each senior class for having reached this station in life where it can continue to perpetuate our Lighthouse. This is one organ of our school that has been shining and still shines for those who have been a part of its making. Those who have passed this way be¬ fore you wish to commend you for keeping up the tradition and for a job well done. There are many things that I could say to you as a group at this time, but they would only be a compilation of the things that we have been emphasizing for the past five years. I am well pleased with the progress that you have made to this point, and feel that you should be ready to take that first big step on a long journey of the life ahead. As you take this step let us remind you that you will encounter many problems that threaten to overwhelm our civilization, and these problems must be dealt with by you if we are to survive as human beings. There can hardly be any doubts in our minds as to the important role that you will play in our modern life; therefore, you must look upon this step with purpose and direction. The Northampton County High School Staff has been conscious of the fact that an education consists of far more than getting book knowledge. I hope that you have grown in the development of certain principles and traits which have universal import -- honesty, loyalty, truthfulness, kindness, tolerance, and an appreciation of moral values. The daily contacts with your teachers should be challenges in the right direction. We further would like for you to remember that problems can be solved when intelligent men and women can sit together, think, discuss and gradually make the correct approach that will ultimately yield solutions in abundance. You are certainly going to have to play some part -- great or small in the solution of the problems that confront your world of tomorrow. As we see it, life holds many successes for you so please accept my sincere and best wishes. W. H. Smith Principal 2 ADMINISTRATION FACULTY MR. W. H. SMITH PRINCIPAL MRS. I. J. On every side they are faced with increasingly complex social and economic patterns and widening occupational opportunities. With these changes have come greater emphasis on individual differences and the development of programs which seek to give systematic aid to all students. Therefore we are trying to provide a program which will aid all students to make wise decisions and good adjustments. Through the Guidance Committee and staff members the following services are available to all students: Individual Inventory, Informational, Counseling, Placement, and Follow-up. These services should assist each student in knowing himself if as an individual and as a member of society; in making the most of his strengths and in correcting or compensating for his weakness that interfere with his progress; in learning about occupations so that he may intelligently plan and prepare for a career; in learning about educational opportunities available to him; and in discover¬ ing and developing creative and leisure interests. For a successful guidance program, we ask for the continued co-operation from the home, the community, and the students. The Guidance Committee standing; Mrs. Alice B. Brown, Mr. W. H. Smith, Mrs. Vera B. McIntosh, Mrs. Lucille U. Kornegay and Mr. C. L. Brickhouse. Seated: Mrs. Ida J. Williams, Mrs. Alice W. Smith and Miss T. R. As we stand at the eve of graduating from high school, we view the past with sadness and the future with hope, SENIOR CLASS POEM All these years we have been working Our trials have been both large and small. But now we are working, striving, upward. To the most cherished crest of all. Now our high school work is fading. And its life is coming to an end. We may rest briefly, for we have earned it. Our start to be among revered men. Some of us will journey upward And travel to the stars above. And find new fields of honest endeavor That will be our labor ' s love. All of us will forever be searching For the light that shows the way. To the truth that is within us To the dawn of a better day. And when the lot is cast in our lives We will know just where we got our start. It will be the work we are now ending. That is embodied closest in our hearts, Crosby Johnson 26 SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Northamptonians Make Headlines I always read the daily paper ( The World Times ) with my morning coffee.
