SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We, the graduating class of 1961, entered Northampton County High School on September 2, 1956. We were divided into four sections by our principal, Mr. W. H. Smith and placed under the supervision of Mr. C. E, Jones, Miss E. E. Smaw, Mrs. M. B. Collins and Mrs. H. D, Upshur respectively. Under those teachers, we began our first year’s work with enthusiasm. We were represented in the Homecoming Festivities by Misses Gloria Spady, Carrie Weeks, Rosa Powell and Georgia Wynder. Also, we were represented in the May Day Festivities by Misses Mary Rowley, Margaret Lee (Miss May Day), Margaret Roane and Gladys Johnson. In September of 1957, we entered as Freshmen. Our advisors were Mr. E. Busch, Jr., Mrs. M, B. Collins, Miss A. J. Barber and Mr. J, Fields. We were represented in the Homecoming Festivities by Misses Bessie Burrows, Margie Stevens, Mabel Hallett and Ester Kates. We were represented in the May Day Festivities by Misses Carolyn Ayers (runner up), Ann Giddens, Lummie Morris and Gladys Johnson. During that year we made much progress and enjoyed our extra curricular activities. In September of 1958, we entered our school as sophisticated Sophomores and were more excited and eager to advance in our educational career. At the close of the term we were glad to know that our Sophomore year had been a success. Our homeroom teachers were Miss L. E. Upshur, Miss D. M. Turner, Miss J. Cumber and Mr, L. Burton, We were represented in the Homecoming Festivities by Misses Mary Rowley, Ann Giddens and Jannie Patterson. We were represented in the May Day Festivities by Misses Nancy Kenny, Deloris Wilkins and Sarah Rowley. We entered school in September 1959, as Junors and were placed under the supervision of the following teachers: Miss K. Y. Hayes, Mrs. N. Hastings, and Mr. K. Wright, We were represented in the Homecoming Festivities by Misses Evelyn Satchell, Carrie Weeks (runner up), and Mable Hallett. Also, we were represented in the May Day Festivities by Misses Dorothy Baines, Shirley Richardson and Sarah Rowley. All the things that we planned and accomplished were pointing toward our becoming the graduating class of 1961, In September 1960, we entered Northampton County High School as “Dignified Seniors”. We were divided into two sections by our Principal, Mr. W. H. Smith. Our advisors were Miss A, J. Barber and Mr. Odis Kornegay Jr. We were represented in the Homecoming Festivities by Miss Margaret K, Helm (Miss Homecoming) and Miss Deloris Onley. Upon reaching this year, we knew we were another step closer to our goal and future. To our parents, faculty and principal, we wish to express our grateful appreciation for the effort and time you have given us in the past that we might have success in the future. God, for our teachers, parents and friends, who have helped us, in their own way, to achieve this goal for which we have been striving.
