Senior Class History In September, 1954, we the class of 1959 entered Northampton County High School and marked the beginning of the Five Year Plan. We were also the second Ei th Grade Class to enter the New School under the New Plan. Our principal, Mr. W. H. Smith, divided us into four sections: A.B.C.D. Our Homeroom teachers were Mrs. B. Vasser, Miss D. M. Turner, Mrs. M. B. Collins, and Mr. A. B. Whitehead. Under these teachers we began our first year’s work with enthusiasm. We were represented in Homecoming Activities by Lucille Harmonson, Vienna Sample, Iris Ames and Betty Wescott. In September, 1955, we began our Freshman year. Our advisors were Mr. A. B, Whitehead, Mr. E. Busch, Jr., and Mrs. B. M. Ervin. We were represented in the Homecoming Activities by Irene Fisher, Margie Beckett, and Bernice Bell. September, 1956, saw us as sophisticated Sophomores. During this year our advisors were Mr. John Cook, Miss D. M. Turner, and Miss L. E. Upshur. We were represented in Homecoming Activities by Lois Williams, Mary Collins, and Irene Boyd. We were unfortunate not to have a graduating class because of the Five Year Plan. In September, 1957, we entered school as Juniors. We were divided into three sections with Miss L. E. Upshur, Miss D. M. Turner, and Miss Cumbers as our advisors. We were represented in Home¬ coming Activities by Margaret Dixon, Mary Collins, and Irene Boyd. The year finally came, September, 1958, when we entered school as “Dignified Seniors.” Ready to advise us were Mr. Odis Kornegay and Mrs. P. D. Friend. Upon reaching this year, we knew that we were another step closer to our goal. We owe this great accomplishment and forward movement to our parents, our principal, and our faculty. To our faculty, we wish to express our grateful appreciation for the help that you have given us in the past so that we might have success in the future. Finally, in the vein of this glorious class history, we are proud to have a good representative number of seniors in the Honor Society. But, we are extremely proud that the following students have been Honor Society members since the society was established at Northampton County High. Those students are Charlie Smith, Wilhelmenia Smith, Gracie Harmon, Freddie Giddens, Wilmer Francis, Alease Sample, Jimmy Brown, and Clarence Fitchett. Poem NOW WE ARE LEAVING Northampton High we now will leave. Carrying with us the things we did achieve. We will develop and never stray, F rom the things we’ve learned during our stay. To you Northampton our love wiU always glow. Because you’ve taught us the things we know. We’ll always cherish till the day we die. The things from you we did acquire. For four years you have sowed our brain To reap the things that we have obtained. Though there are things we know we’ve missed. We are hoping we find love and happiness. Our days with you have almost passed. We hope you’ll always remember our class. We aU say to you. Dear Old Northampton High: Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye. Composed by: Jimmy Brown
