Guidance Committee The Guidance Committee was immediately organized after the opening of school. This year for the first time in the career of the school, the committee plans to present to the pupils “A Career Day.” Special efforts are being put forth to enrich our program in order to meet the needs of each pupil. The Committee has set up the following aims and objectives: 1. To make a study of our drop-outs 2. F oUow-up study of graduates of 1958 3. To promote a desirable student teacher-relationship 4. To insure the pupil’s success in school 5. To encourage the development of a demand for continued education and improvement 6. To identify the gifted child 7. To develop desirable ideas and habits of citizenship In obtaining these aims and objectives we are; 1. Assisting the pupils in selecting their courses and deciding on their vocation 2. Finding the causes of maladjustment and making efforts towards their elimination 3. Enriching our program of studies 4. Leading the pupils to understand and appreciate education The Guidance Committee is composed of the following persons: Miss L. E, Upshur, Mrs. P. D. F riend, Mrs. I. J, Williams, Miss D. Student Council The Northampton County High School Studait Council began the term with new aims and objectives, brought to us by Shirley Sample, who represented us in the Virginia State Student Council Workshop, at Virginia State College this past summer. Our main aim for this term is to have a “Tutoring Service” which is to, be rendered by the members of the council to any student desiring help. Some of our other aims are as follows: 1. To develop good student-faculty relationship 2. To promote clean and healthful living 3. To aid in the administration of the school 4. To furnish citizenship training 5. To provide students with experience in working in a model government 6. To encourage student participation in extra-curricular affairs 7. To encourage habits of individual inquiry along lines of scholarship, practicality and human society in general 8. To help to develop an understanding of an appreciation for the asthetic, cultural and spiritual values of life The present officers are: President, Freddie Giddens; Vice-President, John V. Collins; Secretary, Margaret K. Helm; Assistant Secretary, Shirley Sample; Treasurer, Ruth Rogers; Chaplain, Cora Upshur; Reporter, Rosa Powell; Adviser, Mr. Otis Kornegay. To the Senior Class of 1959, we extend our best wishes for continued success. We trust you will continue your education. “Choose what you like, but be the best.”
