Kids are free thinkers now.” said Assistant Principal Charles Dischinat. describing the changes he has observed since he graduated from Northampton in I960. Dischinat's favorite memory of his high school days is a senior assembly where he dressed in a pink tutu, performing a ballet dance with his fellow classmates. Additionally. Dischinat participated in football, baseball. and the Northampton Club. Louis Wolf Charles Dischinat Priscilla Koch, a 1959 graduated of Northampton High School, compared her high school days with the scenario of Happy Days. Koch described N.H.S. as an innocent simple period of giving and learning before the social revolution of the 1960s.” Additionally, Koch feels student rights are being given more consideration and there are more technical opportunities available to students. Graduating with honors in both speech and French. Koch also participated in National Honor Society, Vesper Spring Concert, Junior Speaking Contest, and was editor of the Amptennian and Concrete Courier. Presently, Koch is teaching Business English. Theatre Arts, and Television Production, replacing Nan Guss-Mentzell. There is a lot more student involvement. The kids are more concerned about the running of the school policies.” commented Louise Wolf when asked about the changes he sees. Serving as president of the Senior Class and president of Student Council, Wolf, a 1949 graduate of Northampton High School, was an active member of Student Government. Additionally. Wolf was a member of the National Honor Society and spent much of his time playing football, basketball, and baseball. Wolf functions as Northampton’s Athletic Director. Priscilla Koch 1939 graduate. Gay Balliei Kent Ruch. 1968 graduate I feel there is an increase of student bondage since my high school days at Northampton, said Gay Balliet. a 1970 graduate of N.H.S., in commenting about the changes she has observed since her high school days. Balliet’s favorite memory of high school was performing in the Big N” Band as head majorette. In addition to the band, Balliet participated in the Northampton Club and Photo Club. Presently, Balliet teaches English. Gay Balliet. graduate of the class of 1970 The dress code has been dropped from the time I was a student.” responded Kent Ruch about the changes he sees in our school since he graduated. Ruch. a 1968 Northampton graduate, recalls participating in state chorus as a special memory of his high school days. Ruch also participated in band. Presently, Ruch serves as the chorus director for the school. Kent Ruch Barry Frable Barry Frable. a math and computer science teacher, graduated from Northampton in 1968. As a member of the math club in high school, Frable prepared for his journey after high school. Additionally. Frable participated in football and the rifle team during his sophomore, junior, and senior years.

A former winner of the History Essay Contest and Girl of the Month, Enid Hower is a 1964 graduate of Northampton who notices many changes in the high school since she graduated. Mowhawks. earrings, and a smoking area are a few of the differences she has noted. Hower participated in numerous activities including National Honor Society, Drama Club, Amptennian, and stage crew. She currently works as the attendance secretary in the main office. Nan Louise Guss. a 1971 Northampton senior Carole Bellhom Nan Guss Mcntzell and son, Trevor, are the center of attention. Enid Hower Many disciplinary changes have taken place and there are more opportunities today,” said Carole Bellhom in explaining the changes she has observed since graduating in I960. Furthermore, Bellhom sees changes in the atmosphere of the school, including different dress codes and more student drivers. Bellhorn participated in Girls’ Chorous, Mixed Chorous. and Ensemble. Bellhorn is now working in the main office as John McAllister’s secretary. In 1981. Nan Guss and Robert Mentzell. a U.S. Geography teacher at Northampton, were married. On October 7, 1985. their first son, Trevor, was born. To date, Guss-Mentzell has served the Northampton Area School District as an English. Theatre Arts, and Television Production teacher. Additionally, she has directed the school's theatre performances since 1979. Although Guss-Mentzell is presently on maternity leave, the spring musical. Once Upon a Mattress, was done under her direction. A 1971 graduate of N.H.S., Guss-Mentzell led the football spectators as our mascot, the Konkrete Block”. She was Drama Club President and a member of Student Council and field hockey team. Additionally, she served as basketball and softball managers.
