(T-L) 70, of a heart attack; Lloyd Nolan, (T-R) 83, after a battle with lung cancer; Rock Hudson, (B-L) 59, after a battle with AIDS; Yul Brynner, (B-R) 65, of cancer.

Ceremonies were held at various times during the year at the Vietnam Memorial in Washigton to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the fall of the Saigon goverment in Vietnam. The Vietnam Memorial is inscribed with the names of more then 58,000 dead or missing soldiers from the Vietnam war. Riots were an almost daily occurence in South Africa as blacks protested Apartheid. In this photo, a white man runs from jeering group of stonethrowing blacks in downtown Johannesburg as widespread violence continued to breakout throughout the country. A series of devastating earthquakes rumbled through Mexico City in September and the death toll was in the thousands. Few in the metropolitan area of 18 million escaped the effects of the first quake, which registered 8.1 on the Richter scale! or the second quake, which measured 7.5. Cyndi Lauper bops to her top selling hit Girls Just Wanna Flave Fun . Lauper manages women’s wrestling champion Wendy Richter.
