Pierzga hurls first perfect game Senior Ann Pierzga pitches her heart out. •a Mary O'Brien and Tammy VanBlargan hold a runner at second base. Senior right-hander Ann Pierzga has been playing softball with many of her teammates since sixth grade in the Lehigh Township summer league. Playing together for so long has brought us closer, both as friends and players. We’ve learned to work well together”, stated Pierzga. Pierzga also credits her family for much of her success. Her father worked with Ann on her pitching right from the start. Pierzga became the first Lehigh Valley girls’ softball pitcher to fashion a perfect game in the 1986 season. She faced only 15 Dieruff batters, striking out five and allowing no walks. In addition to softball. Pierzga played on the varsity girls' basketball team for four years and currently ranks seventh on the all-time scoring list. A co-captain of the team, she represented NHS in the annual LARC All Star game in April. Beth Eckhart looks to Coach Kinter for his signs.

SKii win XI tite Zeam chooses game over prom The varsity baseball team chose to play a game rather than attend the senior prom, and as a result, became the District XI champions. With the help of Joe Kovalchik's heavy bat, the Kids defeated Liberty 11-4. Kovalchik, playing shortstop, batted 4 for 5 with three RBI's. Mike Guzy was the winning pitcher allowing only six hits and striking out three. With seven returning starters, the team ended its regular season of play with a 12 win-7 loss record. Co-captains Kovalchik. Carl Cavallo, and Dan Reenock guided the Kids throughout the season. Kovalchik broke the school record of assists with 114. He finished the regular season batting .412 and. consequently, was selected the team’s most valuable player. Cavallo finished the season batting .329 and earned a 2 win-2 loss pitching re- cord. Reenock led the team in home runs and finished with a 3-1 pitching record. Kovalchik and Cavallo were selected as East Penn League all-stars. Others contributing to the team included seniors Guzy. Curt Beer, Ed Dumbach. Scott Neff. Dan Ziegler, and Mike Hoffman; juniors Chris Reenock and Ed Piripavel; and sophomores Dan Howard and Jeff Erschen.
