Those elected were as follows: George Glatfelter, president, Herbert Suereth, vice president, and lanet Gray, secretary. The treasurer, Dwight Kohr, having been elected in the freshman year, serves for a period of four years. ln recognition of the defeat inflicted on the juniors by a superior class, the seniors, in the magazine campaign, the juniors convened October 12 to arrange for a dance and party to be given to the victors. Several special meetings were called to plan the details of this social event, which was held October 16. The next important meeting was conducted February 16, for the purpose of appointing committees for the annual class play. The chairmen of these committees were: Dwight Smith, advertising committee, Howard Hershey, stage committee, and Gladys Snyder, ushering committee. The Street Called Sham, the junior class play, was successfully pre- sented under the direction of Robert E. Everhart, February 26-27. Pennants, emblems and caps, designed in the class colors, royal blue and white, were distributed early in May to the juniors. The designs on these were fashioned by Granville Kohr, chairman of the pennant committee. As the school year closes, the present juniors, having completed the third year of high school, are preparing to become future seniors. Thus the march of education goes on in the Class of '38 -Mary Olive Shaull. on The Eparl-iler' Our Old High Once again, here as school-mates assembled, life fain would lift our hearts in song, To our High School, our dear Alma lilater, Let gladness the mornents prolong, W'e are proud of her lads and her lasses, Of honors won in days go.ne by, So here's a cheer for -ourold High School, For our old High School, our dear Old High H ere's to -our classes, here's to our lasses, Here's to the lads they adore,- Here's to the Seniors, so mighty, Juniors so flighty, Freshy and Sophomore. Let mirth and gladness banish all sadness, And as the days go by-n You'll find us ready, afnd steady, Boosting for our Old High! Soon for us will the school days be ended, The dreams of youth, that fade so fast, But we know that the heart .oft will ponder, In memlry o'er scenes that are past, There are joys that will long be remembered, And friendships, too, that neler can die, Then here's a cheer for our Old High, For our old High School, our dear Old High .: 34 3. As its first social function, the present sophomore class held the annual bazaar on October 16, in the corridors of the Wilson Building. Those Who directed the committees for this affair Were: Virginia I-leiland, entertainment, LeRoy Good, advertisement, and Evelyn Throne, refreshments. --Evelyn Throne. .1 37 Z. The Eparkler It Can't Happen Here Gladys Hughes makes more noise than the rest of the seniors together. Elsie Zuse never has her lessons prepared. Anna Sprenkle can't play a note-especially on the piano. Rosella Sauerwald is on a diet-which does not include pretzels, You'll never find Phyllis Lehr day-dreaming. People have trouble seeing Mr. Ruby in a crowd. The same people have to ask Annabelle Hoover what she said, the second time. Dorcas Bahn never eats candy. Mrs. Bier fears Grant isn't growing enough. Earl Iacoby thinks he would like to live on a farm. So different from his city life. Doretha Kinports wouldn't know the first thing to do when leading a cheer. Edward Price looks forward to early baldness. Everyone can spell Cleo Pfaltzgraff's last name. Isabel Brehm is so dignified she would never think of cracking a joke in Latin class. A successful ticket sale without Mr. Leber's speeches. 38 ' UTRESHMEN J The Eparl-iler Freshmen Sherwood Landis, President Harry Smith, lr,, Vice-President Dorothy Patterson, Secretary Eleanor Shelly, Treasurer Dolores Anstine Dorothy Baurngardner Rodney Billett Rosella Blanc Arlene Blessing Robert Boring Ruth Brothers Donald Charleston lanet Dahr Thomas Davis Ellen Dittenhafer Tom Doll Georgianna Ensminger Clarence Eppley Dale Everhart Raul Everhart Ruth Fink lanet Fishel Louise Fogle lean Frantz lrvin Gardner William Gates Paul Gerberick Anna Mae Gingerich Geraldine Goodling Fairy Hamme William Hartman Colors: Purple and Gold Vivian Heidler Deloris Hellman Erdine Hess Gerald Hess Dale Hinkle Spurgeon Hoffman Mary lnnerst Dorothy Kann Bernard Kauffman Sherwood Landis Virginia Lehr Frances Lighty Purden Luckenbaugh Ruth Miller Anna Mummert Ruth Mundis Dorothy Patterson lack Peeling Anna Poe Leo Potf lane Price Charles Reever Charlotte Rishel Louise Rittall Alfred Rohler Edna Rohrbaugh Walter Ross .1 40 2. The group numbered eighty-seven students. ln the first six months of school, very little occurred with exception of the regular school routine. On the morning of March 8, l937, the class met in their first scheduled meeting in room 8, tor the purpose of forming a class organization. The first business was the election of class officers, which resulted as tol- lows: Sherwood Landis, president, Harry Smith, vice president, Dorothy Pat- terson, secretary, Eleanor Shelley, treasurer, Donald Shelley, class historian. A committee of three, Rodney Billett, chairman, Georgianna Ensminger and Okal Shenberger, was appointed tor the selection of class colors. After hearing the suggestions of this committee, the class chose the purple and gold as their permanent colors. -Sherwood Landis. .: 4l 5. 1 1 5 ctet1 tes Expe ntion Tiers 300 Delega -Adams Corwe b 1' 1 lf' ' m+kv x ' -N www V - x X ,, A Q as mv X 4 in ,MYXLWQXX . x A MLQQ Maxx, W-, M fb.-AXU!f :. :: 1, --- 13:13, X Of P. . 4 . 0njNovem e Mu, ,,,A, ,A ,,.,. ,.,--..,,.,-,-,g XX -E Loca! C. C. Leber coached the team. The cooperation and team spirit of the girls won most of the games tor them. The cleverness which the two forwards, Lydia Iordan and Romaine Corwell, used in handling the ball, gained many points tor the team.
