Page 17 II ■ £ PROPHECY OF THE CLASS OF ' 56 In the year 1966, having made our first billion, we ran out of things to do with it and so decided to take a world cruise to see what the rest of the glorious class of ' 56 was doing. We hopped in our custom-made gold plated Ford convertible and went to North Webster High to see what we could find out. We were very surprised to find that Mr. Robert L. Ritchie was still principal, but we didn ' t get to see him since he was taking a refresher course in chemistry at one of our leading colleges from the brilliant professor, Mr. Lowell Engle. Marty Gard was doing a wonderful job of teaching psychology to the second grade. We stopped to talk to Mr. Young for a while who is now the sponsor for the class of ' 70. He found talking a little difficult because of his very beautiful but also very long white beard. Noticing that the students seemed a little old for high school, we asked Mr. Young about it. He said that the bell hadn ' t rung since the day we seniors left school, and Mr. Ritchie wouldn ' t let anyone go home. He told us to go see Charlie Hunter, who was now coach of the Champion North Webster Trojans, so, being very careful not to trip on his beard, we went downstairs to the new ultra-modern gym. There sat Charlie, tearing his hair and crying. He told us that he was lonesome for his old buddy Don Mort who was traveling with the Harlem Globetrotters as water boy. We walked uptown a little ways and there, on the corner where the bank used to be was the biggest pool par- lor in the world sole owner and operator, Mr. Red Pearson. We went inside to look around, expecting to find Dan Elliott, but Red said that he was in jail for murder. He was accused of killing time. We got back in the car and drove into the country where we saw two farm houses side by side. The one, with three stories and 720 acres of land was owned by Arnold Weimer, President of the Farm Bureau. The other was too tall to see how many stories it had because the clouds covered the upper stories completely. It was the home of retired millionaire farmer, Larry Richcreek, who, after making his money farming, decided to turn Hell Driver and is star of his own show. Nearby was the biggest junkyard in 14 states, owned and operated by Gale Black and made up entirely from Larry Richcreek ' s old cars and who should we see sorting around for car parts but Harold Mickley, who is a contractor build- ing bird and dog houses. With no one else to see around Webster, we decided to head East. At the famous Vassar school for girls, Jim Kuhn is honorary president and Professor Vernon A. Fawley, Jr. , gives tuba lessons. We fin- ally reached New York and looked up Norma Barnhart, career girl. She is running a very fine Lonely Hearts Club. She took us down to see Ronnie Kiser trying to set a flag pole sitting record on a 2-mile flagpole. He didn ' t feel much like talking so we hurried on to the park to take a horse-back ride. One of the horses fell and dislocated his tail so we took him to the veterinarian, who was none other than Carolyn Whitacre. We took a plane to Europe, stopping off for a moment in South America to see the brilliant scientist, Lee Lawrence, who is finding new and bet- ter ways to cure sleeping sickness, from which he is a life-long sufferer. In Europe we first went to the circus in which Phil Leach is appearing as the laziest man in the world and Royal Jefferies as the living skeleton. In Paris we found Thames Hickman modeling the remarkable three-way stretch girdle for men, which he designed. Norma Jane Rickcreek is also modeling in Paris at the saloon of Pierre, where we found Beverly Hudson, who was trying to find ideas for Esquire Magazine covers, which she draws. Peggy Rhodes is touring Europe withher playboy husband. It seems she decided to marry a regular cut-up instead of a butcher. Janet and Stanley are running a large factory. Stanley manufactures the manes and tails for hobby horses and Janet counts the hairs in each tail so everyone is sure to get a fair deal. Page 30 SENIOR POEM On Life ' s wide open Highway, That has a place for all, The Seniors now are entering, To follow the long roads call. The Senior class of fifty six, From our North Webster High Have now passed all the hurdles, Which did before them lie. The past 12 years are merely memories, The Commencement time is passed, And now before them lies ahead, This Highway broad and vast. The road has many crooks and turns, And many stop off places, It has attractive sideroads, Which ofttimes slows ones paces. High school troubles seemed quite many. As the day went passing fast, But with patience and forbearance, All these cares are gone at last. This big class lost many classmates, As the years ranked up their toll. Some did move or left this High School, To assume some other role. Ronnie and Ronnie are boys of the Marines They hope to travel all over the seas; Gale is settled a farmer to be, Now all he needs is a woman to tease. Carolyn is quiet but witty and smart, And Peg is all set for a wedding gown; Always so happy is Bev. Hudson you see, Exceptionally so, when Rex is in town. What love can do is no mystery to me, So says Arnold who really can say, For he, like Janet and Stanley have found, That love is wonderful just any day. When one wants to watch some innocent fun, And see the blame shifted to another one, Just get around Mickley or Elliott too, Something will happen and then watch them run. Charlie is speedy in many ways, He jumped from one sister to the other with ease, Don had his troubles on the basketball floor, Give me a chance, coach, just one more please. What started so casual a romance to be, Has ended quite serious for Larry Di, She has planned college her future to be, But what about Larry, will this romance die? So this class of 26 members, With their training for the race On the road have joined the others, And life ' s problems there to face. A class must have some officers, And work in a business like way, With Thames Arnold at the helm, The class never wandered far astray. Janet kept the minutes and Diane the money, This was the case for 3 yrs. straight, And one can imagine with such experience, Things were kept right up to date. Each member of this Senior Class, Was different from all the rest, Some were smart and yet quite onery, One can ' t say who was the best. Thames Hickman to New York will go A concert pianist he hopes to be, Marty is going to Purdue she says To get her Mrs. and B. S. degree. Page 32 A look in the future by Norma Jo A husband and home she ' s sure she can see; Royal and Lee have ambitions the same, They hope G. E. apprentices soon to be. Vernon Lowell have college in mind, Both in Music, either vocal or band, Norma Richcreek plans a nurses career, And Larry R. thinks the navy is grand. Jim Kuhn likes sport of any kind. He isn ' t particular as long as it ' s fun; Phil Leach is bashful, as bashful can be, Just give him a look and see that boy run. These are ones that are entering the race, A race that will end at eternities gate, The length of the road is different to each. But distance traveled determines no fate. So to this class that ' s leaving us now, Success and Good Luck is our wish to you. We know the road will not always be bright, But we hope it ' s your best you will always do.
