FFA Has A Successful Year Members of the Future Farmers of America were busy with many spring pro- jects. The annual holiday plant and flower sale is always an exciting project. A special Barnyard Day provided local elementary school children the opportuni- ty to see farm animals and learn where food comes from. During FFA Week, the FFA officers sponsored an assembly for the 8th and 9th grade students to expose them to the opportunities available in the field of agriculture. The feature film, Be All You Can Dream, expressed the goals and aims of the FFA. The NJ State FFA Presi- dent, Ken Ingalls, was the guest speaker. The chapter officers gave a slide presen- tation, depicting the many activities that the members participate in throughout the year on the local, regional, and state level. At the state FFA Convention in May, the North Warren Chapter received a first place banner in Fruit and Vegetable Iden- tification and Judging. The members of the team were Kirsten Sass, Curtis Hill, Nikki Glaab. Kirsten Sass received a gold medal for being the lst place individual in the state. The chapter received a 2nd place award for the FFA Week Promo- tional Activities. The Livestock Judging Team, iKen Peterson, Kirsten Sass, Curtis Hill, and Paul Steffeyy placed 5th in a highly competitive state contest. Kirsten Sass received a 2nd place silver medal in this contest. Paul Steffey placed 6th in the State Tractor Driving and Safety Contest. Mind Dlympics D es It Aga' Music, Maestro, Please was a musical performance using classical music. The Division ll l7th gradel placed first in local competition with their version of this project. This qualified them to compete on the Regional level. Division Ill lHigh Schooll chose the Ecology Doser as their project. They designed and built a vehicle powered only by hydraulic lifts. The team placed first in local and Regional meets, enabling them to travel to Glassboro State College for State Competition. Once again, the North Warren Olympics of the Mind Team placed first in the State. Team members - Neil Hamilton, Frank Seesink, Scott Wilson, Ron Rowe, and Keith McGill proudly represented the State of New Jersey at the World Finals held at the University of Maryland.
