1 TABLE ofl CONTENTS Those mad scientists at work Locker-Room Celebration! The Freshmen's best side vo£ The class of 1983 was faced with the financial problems of graduation. The class divided themselves into 4 energetic and enthusiastic groups to compete against one another to raise funds without a sales campaign. Some of these methods were bowl-a-thons, raffle, and Q-FM 96 basketball game. The class wants to continue with the Senior breakfast tradition and would like to have a most memorable graduation ceremony. OFFICERS — (I to r) Advisor M. Liv- ingston, President C. The junior class had a variety of successful money-making projects during the past year. First of all, we held the traditional candy bar sale. Next came the sale of candy canes during the Christmas season. Then the juniors assembled and produced the first-ever Junior Talent Show.” Finally, the class was in charge of the concession stand at the home basketball games. The Class of '84 had a great year. . . and we're looking ahead to next year. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I om the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flights, I am the soft stars that shine of night: Do not stand at my grave and cry, I om not there, I did not die. KIRK HUGHES The Freshman year is a period of many ad- justments. Our own individual responsibilities in our classes and our chosen extracurricular activities are quite enough to deal with at this point in our high school journey. We did, however, organize a very successful sales cam- paign at Christmas which netted us a very nice sum of money. We were told this was the most successful sales promotion by Freshmen at NU in some time. This makes us very proud. Right: Adv. Mrs. Wright Sec. Treas. Traci Oates V. Pres. Tami Monroe Pres. We live in a suburb of Stockholm. I live approx- imately 3 miles away from downtown Stockholm. I have two years of school before I graduate. I study mainly business courses. My past time interests include sailing, skiing, track, and windsurfing. In North Union High School, I've been involved in football, Student Council, weightlifting and track. I really have enjoyed my stay here and I want to express my thanks to everyone that has helped in making this year such a nice one. Karen Nedergaard I live in Klampenborg which is approximately 12 miles north of Copenhagen, Denmark. I have a younger brother and two younger sisters. My grandmother lives with us in our big, old house. There is only one T.V. channel and we don’t have any soap operas, so I have really enjoyed it here. It is not very common with school activities after school so I liked playing volleyball and basketball a lot. I have also been on Student Council and learned a bunch from it. This year has been a great experience for me and I will always think back with happiness and I’m glad for all the nice people who made this year super. Takumi Hatakeyama I live with my mother, Kimu, my father, Yoichirou, and my sister, Chizu who is 14 years old. My address is 3-3-24 Yone-machi kushiro- shi, Kokkaido, Japan 085. I was born on March 3,1966. I enjoyed listening to air-band radio and go- ing on trips (by myself). My favorite sports are baseball (gonzo ball) volleyball, ping-pong, ice skating, and soccer. My favorite foods are piz- za, sushi and sukiyaki. Overall, my year at NUHS is a memory I'll cherish forever! 38 Upper Left: Takumi does some heavy reading. Upper Right: C’mon you two, make up. In the 20-6 victory over CBL opponent New Albany the Wildcats displayed the pride and determination that was evident all season. Led by the seniors the 1982 Wildcats have paved the way for the future successes of North Union football teams. The Cats were led by senior Co-captains Jeff Krawczyk and Brian Shields, who were among the central Ohio leaders in free throw percentage and rebounding, respectively. Rounding out the starting five were juniors Richie Kelly, Mike Clagett and Scott Thompson, who each turned in many solid performances. Some season highlights included the opening win over rival Elgin, 63-56. The Cat's also surprised league leading Jonathan Alder with a thrilling 60-55 overtime win. The Cats bowed out of tourney play with nothing to be ashamed of, as they lost in 4 overtimes to Newark Catholic, 89-87. However, Nor- thridge defeated NUHS 10-9 in tournament play. That loss took its toll — because the year ended with 4 straight losses. Doug Wilson won the Big Stick award for the highest batting average. Briar Shields and Rich Kelly were the team's top hurlers. 127 (front)(l to r)D. Eastman, D. Nauman. S. Evans. S. Blue. H . This year's Lady Cats ended up with a 21-5 overall record and a 16-4 league record and lost to DeSale in the District Finals. Most valuable players for the season were Shelley Ridge, Best Defense to Barb Parish, and Best Offense to Wendy Wilson. The Softball Team is looking forward to an even better season next year! Hey batter, you've got two strikes on you! o cc i- The 1983 NUHS Track team had an outstanding season — one in which some individuals showed marked improvement and one which saw others compile excep- tional statistics. Coach Rankin presented Jeff Boyd with the Newcomer award; Jeff Parish and Reddy Brown with Most Improved awards; and Mike Clagett, who earned all-CBL honors, with Wildcat of the Year. However, when it comes to awards, Don Tumeo must be mentioned. The senior could also be called a “Cat of the Year” because of his ac- complishments. Don climaxed his season with a flourish by participating in the state championship at OSU. (row 1,1 to r) B. Payne, L. Payne, C. Morey, D. Wasserbeck, J. Boyd. B. Grose, R. Dutton, J. Sandusky. M. However, on an individual basis the girls did extremely well, setting North Union and personal records. The 1983 Lady Wildcats were as follows: Rozy Kissling, who set two NUHS records (in the long jump and the 100 yard dash); Kellena Elbin; Stepanie Kale; Brenda Jackson; and Laurie Fry. As the season ended, it as clear that Coach Jim Metzger had the girls track program going in the right direction. 131 Spring Records Page VARSITY BASEBALL NU 2 6 Marysville NU 3 13 Dublin NU 6 7 Grandview NU 7 8 Jonathan Alder NU 9 3 New Albany NU 6 7 West Jeff NU 0 2 Academy NU 5 6 Big Walnut NU 5 4 Waynesfield NU 7 1 Waynesfield NU 14 13 Olentangy NU 7 1 Elgin NU 4 1 Grandview NU 6 9 Ridgedale NU 2 8 Jonathan Alder NU 8 9 Northridge — sectional NU 5 7 Highland NU 3 6 Highland NU 0 7 Academy NU 4 5 West Jeff NU 4 2 New Albany NU 0 11 Buckeye Valley BOYS TRACK CD Indoor Championships 9th place VARSITY SOFTBALL NU 17 4 Grandview NU 25 8 Jonathan Alder NU 4 16 Big Walnut NU 9 5 Marysville NU 12 4 New Albany NU 16 1 West Jeff NU 15 3 Olentangy NU 3 4 Bexley NU 5 2 Buckeye Valley NU 25 11 Ridgedale NU 13 9 Cardington NU 2 4 Dublin NU 10 5 River Valley NU 18 1 Grandview NU 16 2 Big Walnut NU 6 1 Marysville NU 14 0 Jonathan Alder NU 7 6 New Albany NU 13 9 West Jeff NU 22 0 Jonathon Alder NU 13 7 Olentangy NU 30 0 Briggs NU 16 4 Buckeye Valley NU 0 8 DeSales NU 4 0 Bexley NU 4 6 Dublin NU 69 72 Ridgedale 25 Ridgemont NU 96 36 Grandview NU 7th Golden Eagle Relays NU 94 42 New Albany 31 Jonathan Alder NU 76 56 Marion Catholic NU 64 82 Buckeye Valley 18 West Jeff NU 69 63 Marion Pleasant NU 35v2 111 Big Walnut 20' 2 Buckeye Valley NU 2nd Richwood Relays NU 87 45 River Valley NU 5th Canal Winchester Inv. Go placidly omid the noise ond haste, ond remember what peace there may be in silence. As for os possible, without surrender, be on good terms with oil persons. If you compare yourself with others, you may become bitter or vain, for always there ore greater ond lesser persons than yourself. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is o real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Beyond o wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You ore o child of the universe, no less than the trees ond the stars,- you hove o right to be here. And whether or not it is dear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding os it should. Therefore be or peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, ond whatever your labors ond aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With oil its shorn, drudgery ond broken dreams, it is still o beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. Good luck ond best wishes.
